Charge Cyber-Horse! Warhammer 40K’s Lord Solar Leontus
October 31, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop has dropped another fancy preview for Warhammer 40,000 and the Astra Militarum. Leading the way, Lord Solar Leontus is going to be charging into the action atop a mighty steed. What do you make of this new character?

Taking on the rank of Lord Commander Solar, Arcadian Leontus is quite the dashing fellow. He rides into battle on the back of his cyber-steed known as Konstantin. Together, they charge into the heart of battle with the aim of vanquishing heretics, mutants and aliens.

He comes armed with his pistol, Sol's Righteous Gaze and his deadly power sword, Conquest. They all sound like some decent weapons useful in leading the Imperium to great victories on the tabletop.
Leontus is able to change your objectives in the heat of battle and can also draw on extra command points during your turn. This makes him a great strategist who is able to dictate the flow of battle on the tabletop whilst also being quite handy in a scrap.
He also features on the front cover of the new Codex: Astra Militarum which will be available with the Cadia Stands: Astra Militarum Army Set.
Are you going to be picking Leontus to lead the way on the battlefield?

Stunning looking figure especially the armour plates on the robo horse an the cloak.
Imperial guard jumping the shark there. The moment I knew was coming and here it is.
Indeed, painful to see this appear (when you look at the fantastic Krieg Mounted Officer that Forge World did, why couldn’t they do something similar). Plus the paintjob makes it look more like a Wedding Cake topper than anything else 🙁
She-Ra on her horse.
??? – I can’t not see it! She-Ron.
Clearly an Age Of Sigmar Cities Of Sigmar leader figure
That was my thinking
100%! When my buddy posted his picture I said “Cool, new Cities of Sigmar?” It’s hard to convince me that it wasn’t a design for AoS that they moved over to 40k… His horse is reminiscent of the old engineer steam horse. His sword isn’t a power sword (no cables or power packs that I can see) but has a shape very reminiscent of the old Imperial Runefangs from Warhammer. He’s covered in starburst iconography that match the Sigmar look, and he has nothing that looks like a 40k refractor field or the like. Heck, even his pistol has a… Read more »
I was just thinking that I still needed a general for my fantasy army!
Ok, that has been designed for AoS and 40k’d up along the way and no one will convince me otherwise.
Many foots on rock
I’m not a big fan, but I don’t know what bugs me about it. I have the Old Lord Solar Macharius mini and I knew the new one was going to be mounted on a horse so this is essentially exactly what I was expecting. I think it’s possibly just the squeeky clean paint job (which makes sense I suppose) when these days I prefer a grittier style.
I definitely think it’s one of those minis that’ll be brought to life by the community painters.
I think that would work if it was a Saint perhaps… or maybe a grim-dark paint job. Maybe he has some sort of DAZ-BRILLIANT-WHITE forcefield that keeps him sparkling clean
Agree with a lot of the comments on here. I too originally thought it was a Cities of Sigmar model at first glance. I think in isolation it stands out for the wrong reasons as there isn’t anything else that matches the aesthetic. But I guess the caveat here is “currently”. On the cover of the new codex there seems to be some troops/command squad in the art which look similar so maybe if there was an honour guard it may look less out of place – maybe a dual command kit with the rough riders? If it is the… Read more »
Grandmaster of the Blazing Suns, perhaps?
The old Grandmaster model was much much nicer.
It is a nice models but… It just does not fit into the style or design of any of the existing models. It is bonkers and makes not sense at all. On some level it is normally the left field model design I like but when it comes to the guards bulk standard grim dark.
This is just an easy pass for me at the moment. It maybe a fun painting project at someone but not for the army.
