Crash Land With Kill Team: Rogue Trader Next Week
September 3, 2018 by brennon
Games Workshop will be opening up pre-orders for their new narrative boxed game for Kill Team this coming weekend. Rogue Trader will put you in the fabulous boots of Elucia Vhane and her crew as the battle against a Nurgle infection which has spread throughout her ship.
The game offers you a new Killzone to play in, namely the tight confines of an Imperial shuttle that belongs to Vhane and her crew. You will find eleven linked missions inside the box which help tell the story of the Elucidian Starstriders as they try and survive the infection and escape planetside.
Themed Kill Teams
This means two new heavily themed Kill Teams in the box. The first are the aforementioned Elucidian Starstriders led by Elucia Vhane.
This Rogue Trader Captain is bringing her Voidsmen-at-Arms to battle with her alongside characters like Sanistasia Minst (Medic) and Knosso Prond (Death Cult Executioner). It pays to have a good staff, especially when you're dealing with a shipwide invasion.
I find it a shame that Vhane is in such a relaxed pose. I would have liked to have seen her with sword drawn and pistol at the ready. She might be the Captain but she'll have to get stuck in at some point!
I do really like the style of these models overall though. It's nice to see a wider range of Imperial armour and weapons, looking towards soldiers that aren't just Cadians!
Arrayed against them we have the Gellerpox Infected.
This range of mutated crazies are led by Vulgrar Thrice-Cursed and, as Games Workshop puts it, shows off the low-level infected that you'd find when Nurgle gets its tendrils into the populace. As well as a few creepy little daemons you also get some hulking beasts that look like they could smash through a bulkhead if they wanted.
Warhammer 40,000 Rules
Games Workshop is also included two Mini-Codexes as part of the Rogue Trader set which will allow you to use these models away from Kill Team in larger games of Warhammer 40,000.
So, you'll be able to include them as part of your larger fighting force on the tabletop. Maybe once the crew manages to make landfall you could have them as part of a larger battle where an Imperial cruiser is powering through the Warp to try and rescue them from the infected and drops off a contingent of soldiers?
Will you be snapping up this new Kill Team boxed game?

Wish GW would get out of the Nurgle trend for everything Chaos (although it’s good for players with a Nurgle army in 40K, it would be nice to see some of the other Chaos gods represented).
I wonder if Forge World might do some “alternate” models for captains?
But I really DO like the men at arms (sort of goes back to the old IG plastics (and the 9th Necromunda), lets face it ANY new IG figs is a good thing (the current selection of styles been going for 15 years now for infantry figs).
Nurgle is a safe choice because it allows them to do a wide range of different things with the sculpting. Khorne is just lots of blood covered guys and Tzeentch is maybe a bit too weird – mutants and infected are something people can get behind.
I know what you mean though – would be cool to see what they could do with various Daemonic warbands.
To be honest for a Rogue Trader game I would have quite liked to see some Xenos rather than Demons. I get why they haven’t (i.e. they wouldn’t have an army to go with them) but that’s the essence of Rogue Traders
Don’t forget Slaanesh, most underrated of four Chaos Gods and one that needs some new models.
Go back a bit and it was all Khorne stuff.
I like the pose of the captain, cool, everything under control and hands ready on her weapons just the right feel a like a pirate captain should have.
The relaxed pose is a nice contrast… makes her seem ‘regal’… “Well… get on with it then! Clean the ship… I leave you in charge for a few hours and a nurgle infestation appears! Don’t make me get my weapons out…”
Other trader sculpts are good too. I like a diverse army, getting a bit sick of painting rank and file in uniform.
I am getting sick of nurgle though. Refused to buy Dark Imperium because death marines are gross, got Forgebane instead.
Good number of scenarios too.
If the had come out before kill team I would have bought Rogue Trader.
I like the idea of putting two mini codices in the box, though they mat have been a little too specific with the name of each codex “Rouge Trader crew” and “Mutants of Nurgle” would have been fine.
I love the look of this. I can take or leave the Nurgle stuff but will probably look into this purely for the Rogue Trader kill team.
So is this a sort of 30K spacehulk it does remind me of one of the book’s where an Ultramarine ship with some Wolf’s and a thousand son’s librarian have a chaos beast wrecking the ship.
I don’t thin it’s 30K.
your right enough its 40/41K it still looks good.
She can’t be the Captain. Must be the entertainment. Like her Slave Leia twirlies placement, not so much the fern. Otherwise looks good. Will adjust well to my needs.
I really like the set, a little surprised that at £80 you will still need the core rules, but that would not deter me from picking it up. The sculpts are fantastic, the arms men being the stand out taking me right back to Jes’ original sketches for the space fleet game.
However, I won’t be picking it up on release, coming just before an Ork wave I am waiting until I have seen all of Orktober’s offerings before deciding were my cash goes. Although DAK army and a Napoleonic force won’t go away as an idea.
I like what they are doing with this set. Its a very different look and feel to recent output and you get to double dip into two games. Including two mini 40k codex’s is great for customers.
Technically another smashing set of miniatures. Really pushing things on the Nurgle front. For those wanting Rouge Trader miniatures for so long this ticks all the boxes and will be great. Personally though it is the first GW 40k product that has left me completely cold. I’m more interested in the interior bits and whether the rules additions will enable some sort of Kill Team play in a Zone Mortalis setting.
I suspect I’ll pick this up. The models look fun to paint and I already own Kill Team. When it comes to sci-fi I like a) skirmish rules rather than army rules (I just can’t believe in conventional “armies” clashing on conventional battlefields in the far future, it destroys the 4th wall for me) and b) the whole “hive of scum and villainy”, brownshirt, Han Solo band of mismatched space pirates vs. the baddies vibe. Along with others I wish the baddies had been Xenos rather than Chaos (again…) but hey ho, at least they weren’t SPAYS MARIENZ..! 😀 I’ll… Read more »
While those do look good I am sick and tired of Nurgle getting all attention.
yes you are right when was the last time Walal goy anything? Tired of the other 4 hogging the spotlight all the time 😀
MY GOD !!!!!! what time did I type this at MALAL not Walal ??? How did I do this W and M are nowhere near each other …. I’m going mad
I’m interested in the Gellerpox Infected. More puss-covered cannon fodder for my unstopable Nurgle forces!
