New Kastelan Robots & Servites As Next 40k Mechanicus Release [Updated]
April 30, 2015 by brennon
More pictures have surfaced online showing off the newest Kastelan Robots that will be making their way into the brand spanking new Adeptus Mechanicus for Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000. You can see them HERE and a look at the whole Adeptus Mechanicus Army HERE.
Update: A few more images HERE for you folks & New Servites too...
The Kastelan Robots look alright but they have a bit too much curvature to them for my liking. They have a very 70's movie feel to them and I actually prefer their controller to the larger models themselves.
The new Kastelan Robots are just part of a wider look at the new Adeptus Mechanicus that also covers a range of tracked vehicles and even some more foot troops called Battle Servites and Electro Priests respectively.
These leaks come a week ahead compared to normal with the White Dwarf out on the 9th of May so you've still got plenty of time to see what else is coming out and they're not going to be double-bundled with the Imperial Knights out for pre-order this Friday.
Let us know your thoughts!

I like them! I think it’s the mono color scheme they’ve gone for that makes them a bit bland to look at in low resolution pics?
The robots are very retro and based on the original models / progression of the 30K robots. Exactly how robots should logically be rather than with their parts hanging out (hear that, Michael Bay?).
Servitors is what I’m talking about! A great army overall.
I kind of like the retro robot look, it’s as if they’ve been sitting in a box on Mars for several thousand years, until someone switched them on.
Still think they need a little conversion work though, maybe change up the head a bit,
and add a few more visible mechanical parts here and there.
Kinda like those bots actually, but why are the technical masterminds of mars fielding 4 different types of melee units? The electro priests seem to carry smaller versions of the infamous cattle prod and on top of that; no armour to rely on to get close. They look just about as ridiculous as the bare chested dark eldar melee units. What does feeling no pain help if a bolt embeds itself in your stomach and explodes? Would be nice if the fluff could start to approach the gameplay a bit more soon.
Actually from the books I’ve read personal force fields are a think for them.
The battlefields of 40K are filled with times where close combat is all that can happen, and long range weapons are not apt. The “infamous” cattle prod seems like a pretty deadly close combat weapon to me in terms of it not actually running out of power, from what I read of the fluff.
Bare Chested Dark Eldar? The armour slows you down. And Mandrakes don’t stay in our reality for that long anyway…
I must say, I really think that GW has stepped up their game with the AdMech releases, and just when they had almost lost me….
I like the look of the robots and other troops shown in the army poster. I just don’t like the fact that so much information is missing from the codex. I suppose they will get us to purchase a second codex of some sort.
I can imagine that’s the idea. Well let’s hope it’s good, the AdMech so far have even got me – a dedicated Xenos player – interested. haha 🙂
The models look great, but they’re not in the codex so I’m a bit confused. Are there going to be two Adeptus Mechanicus codexes (Skitarii and something else). Why weren’t they a single codex?
@danlee yes two books. New one Cult Mechanicus
I know why its two books BUT can’t think of a reasonable reason they weren’t just in one!
klaatu barada nikto
…make sure you got it right!
The day the earth stood still 🙂
Yup, classic 1951 sci-fi. In style these remind me of Gort. That’s where the Army of Darkness shtick came from — a bit of homage.
Not thrilled with these. They’re a bit retro, and therefore in tune with the rest of the stuff, but not jaw-dropping. Even if you just look in today’s news feed you can tell that GW’s models aren’t even in the middle of the pack anymore. No dedication or love of craft in any of it these days.
Just looking at their lack of long term goals with board games, premium limited editions, they dont even pretend to be passionate about it.
I agree that it is probably the colour scheme that is the principle issue with the robots. Breaking up all that red with a few metallic tones or black and yellow danger hashes would definitely help.
I really like the tracked combat servitors and the Datasmith.
I’ve not played 40k since 3rd edition but I try to keep up to date and I will buy minis that inspire or capture my imagination well and this whole range has really done that for me which hasn’t been the case since the re-release of Dark Eldar a few years ago (who along with sisters of Battle are my only 40K Armies). While I’m in no rush and I’m serious confused as to why these releases where split into two codex’s (I believe) in terms of models I’m a massive fan of just about everything in the range with… Read more »
Probably split into 2 codices so that you wouldn’t have 2 months of releases without rules or rules for non existent minis. After all the legal shinnanaginsthey wont release rules with out a mini and a la k of rules would hurt sales while people wait to see how good a statline they have, that’s my take anyway. I suspect they had several release windows for phase 2 ad mech and based on sales of the skitarri hit launch before whfb9 releases, otherwise it would be an autumn/winter release. As for transport option I hope a bits bag is released… Read more »
i really dislike them, compared to the FW stuff the mech and vehicle stuff just isn’t hitting the right spot for me. The troops on the other hand look better than some of the FW stuff.
nice looking release, i must say this new army is looking better and better. GW may be expensive but they can put out a great product when they put their mind to it
Sorry, they don’t look right to me.
The whole army seems a little weird to my eye (the vehicles anyway). Spindly walkers; Squat, tracked servitors; Angular, chunky 4-legged walker and curved, retro Robots. If they weren’t painted the same I’d assume they were from different forces.
If that’s the point, well done, nailed it. Otherwise, for me, there’s no unity in the army, nothing tying it together.
man I hope theres some infantry with trailing cables, everythings got legs except those tank-tracked servitors and I quite like those – but it’s the weird priests with trailing cables rather than legs that I like the best – always found the images of those guys really creepy and cool.
I actually think that the some of (if not all) the differences in the various model lines is part of the fluff. These guys are both inventors and scavengers of technology so having throw back looking machines and more chunky (modern) machines makes sense.
I really like the old school look of the robots. Not too keen on the rest though.
