GW Start Off Your Heresy Era Army With Space Marine Re-Releases

Games Workshop have now re-boxed the models that were available within the Betrayal At Calth boxed set which took you back to the Horus Heresy in plastic form. You can snap up all of the models now in separate boxes...
First up we have the Space Marine Heroes above which can fight for both the Loyalists and the Traitors, just like everything else from these sets. These models represent both a Terminator Captain and a Chaplain for your army, leading your warriors into glorious battle.

Secondly, and walking tall, we have the Contemptor Dreadnought.
I'm not actually that much of a fan of the static poses for the Contemptor Dreadnought they showed off here but it's hard to argue with the fact that you're playing decidedly less than a Forge World models.
Still, maybe with a bit of chopping and tweaking you could make this amazing Dreadnought not look so, well, awkward.
Traitors & Loyalists
Making up the bulk of your army, for now at least, we have the Mark IV Space Marines...
...and the Cataphractii Terminators who are possibly some of the coolest models in the collection. I STILL have to paint the rest of my own models that I picked up from the board game. Maybe this will give me the impetus to do so.
Rules for the Contemptor and the Cataphractii Terminators can be found within the Angels Of Death Codex which you can also snap up from their webstore if you haven't already. You can also obviously just use them as standard Terminators if you so wished too.
Will you now be snapping these up?

Those are really nice. I just hope that both that Chaplain and that SM Sergeant come with head options so that there is no need for using those UM style heads for other legions.
The tactical squad magically costs 5£ more than a regular one .. totally called for
Wacoshop feeds on chumps and now they don’t even care what crap they churn out. The crozius is supposed to be a mark of office, not some huge mace!

It has always been both ceremonial mark of office and power maul weapon, even from the earliest renditions of the model and through all iterations of the surrounding fiction- the whole idea is that the Chaplain literally uses a symbol of the Imperium to kill the enemies of the Imperium.
I don’t place the blame on magic for the price, I think it was a “tactical” choice 😛 on GW’s part.
Yep it’s only the muggles that have to pay the extra £5.
The HH branding apparently makes plastic cost more…

The price tag is a bit off tho. And why do they always paint them up as Ultramarines..?..sigh.
I think they are Ultramarines because the Calth Set had Ultramrines in it and on the website or the WD or somewhere they showed all models as Ultramarines so they didn’t had to paint new models, i think the also had everthing painted as Word Bearers but for what ever reason Ultramarines are the posterboys.
Anyone else noticed that if you buy everything individually it’d cost you £100 more than if you’d bought BaC? O.o
Just be glad you don’t live down under 😉 The Space Marine Heroes pack works out to about £50. For. Two. Damned. Plastic. Characters. Madness.
Perhaps a silver lining from the post EU ref crash is the plummeting pound will make things more affordable in your neck of the woods 😉

Definately have to agree, who ever is in marketing needs their head examined, in OZ, you can buy the BaC for $265AU, but the seperate prices are riduculous, $85 for 10 HH Marines, $115 for 5 Cataphractii terminators [over the top], $85 for 2!! Characters and $100 for a static pose Contemptor Dreadnought. If you add up what is in the BaC at separate prices it would cost $555AU. They must have extra stock of BaC they are trying to get rid of. GW is really getting out of my reach to buy lately and I am a single bloke… Read more »
True, but if you wanted everything, then why not just buy BaC instead? I think a separate release is more aimed at the person who just wants 10 more marines or 5 more terminators. If I was starting a HH marine force from scratch, I would just buy the BaC set.
or you could just buy another BaC set and add the unwanted bits to your spare bits collection 😉
Or sell the stuff you don’t need or buy that marine box on ebay/a forum, i have seen them for 20€ on the net instead of the 39€ GW wants, of course you won’t have a box and a manual but if you play marines or got the Calth set this shouldn’t trouble you.
My point was that it’s a massive disparity in prices. It wouldnt be surprising for a large box set to save you money (well, it would as this is GW we’re talking about, but they seem to be improving), but £100 is a hell of a lot. Especially when the box set itself isn’t even £100. It really puts things into perspective at how overpriced GW kits are when buying the components separately more than doubles the cost (and you wouldn’t get the dice, tiles, etc either). I totally agree. If I wanted 30 marines, I would buy a BaC box. What about if I just wanted 10 marines or just wanted 5 terminators? I could look on eBay or bit sellers. I could buy a BaC box and eBay all the stuff I don’t want. Honestly though, I just couldn’t be bothered. With the time and effort I’d be using to save a few quid, I could earn more than I could save 😉 I suppose really though it’s about giving people choices. I have to admit I do like these but I would just use the stuff I have to play HH anyway.
The tactical marines and terminators are a good staple for a HH marine force. They’re expensive, but cheaper than buying FW resin ones and actually better. The characters aren’t even in the same league as FW officers and characters and the contemptor is very poor.
BaC is still the best way to start a HH army, provided it’s MkIV armour you want. I know a lot of HH players are hoping that GW come up with plastic MkIII armour.
I have to agree with this – mk3, would have been my choice, mk4s are probably at the bottom of the list for me. Mk 6 are the ones I like the best overall.
£30 for ten marines I remember you could get 60 for that.

I remember the mk6 rogue trader box with 30 marines for £15. A land raider was £7.99. 8 Metal terminators was £14.99, with Space Hulk itself at £24.99.

This hobby has never been cheap. Back in the early 80s, when I first started buying minis, you could get a single Citadel mini for 40p. A boxed set of miniatures sold for £3.95 if I remember correctly. I also remember that I got 50p pocket money per week at the time and saved up for ages to buy a £3 balrog miniature.
@erastus They could if they brought out a breacher squad kit and did a board game for kill teams or zone mortalis or on the side of a starship or Phall or somethings. Imperial Fists and Iron Warriors anyone?

Well rumors are the next HH boardgame will feature Thousand Sons and Space Wolves.
That would make sense, seeing as the next FW big black book is Prospero and Betrayal at Calth was timed to coincide with FW’s Calth book. If that’s the case though, what will it have model wise? Assault marines perhaps?
I’ll bet on Assault and a different monopose contemptor.
