Snap Up Heavy Tanks For Warhammer: The Horus Heresy
May 8, 2023 by brennon
Some classic tanks from Forge World are coming to the Games Workshop webstore for those looking to dive into Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. If you're seeking to play out this epic 28mm Sci-Fi clash between Loyalist and Traitor Space Marines, you might want some extra firepower.

These classic tanks are coming with upgraded plastic sponson sprues that allow you to get your hands on some extra weapons. It seems a decent upgrade to switch from resin to plastic on the weapons at the very least and it seems like the same is being done for a host of different vehicles in the Space Marine armoury.

It has also been noted that the Mastodon will also come with an updated datasheet that allows it to add some of the new sponsons including the Volkite Culverins and Heavy Bolters. In addition to the heavy tanks, some artillery is also seeing a return in the form of the Arquitor Bombards.

They get resin Autocannons plus plastic Lascannons, Heavy Flamers, Heavy Bolters and Volkite Culverins. Saturate the battlefield with as much firepower as possible and turn warzones into a mass of craters.
Last but not least, there are also a couple of kits which might be handy for those finishing off an army or tinkering with their selection of vehicles. You can get the Javelin Land Speeder (which is a mix of resin and plastic components)...

...and the Damocles Command Rhino Upgrade Kit which is all resin and slots onto the plastic kit for the iconic Rhino.

It goes without saying that these vehicles can be used for both Traitors and Loyalists alike meaning that if you're diving into the Siege Of Cthonia soon, these might be worth picking up. Get them painted up in the colours of the Imperial Fists or Sons Of Horus (as shown here) and battle for the Warmaster's home planet!
Could you be tempted to pick up some of these vehicles in their mix of resin and plastic to bulk out your Horus Heresy armies?

I would love a mastadon but what’s the price going to be?
Your soul most likely…
? probably at the very least.
Mastadon? FW are selling them at the bargain price of £400 (I kid you not)
Resin, even with plastic gribblies, is bally horrible stuff to work with.
Actualy, that’s unfair. For *me* it’s horrible to work with.
Never had a problem with it – I’d take a full FW resin kit over a mixed GW/FW resin set any day.
It does take patience, and good cleaning, or your paint job will just slough off.
Disappointed these aren’t getting full plastic kits. I want a Falchion and a Glaive so the price drop would have been welcome.
The Fellblade and Fellblade look somewhat believable as tanks. The Mastodon looks ridiculous.
