Check Out Golden Demon Past & Present With New Website
May 9, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop used to have a neat way of showing off the Golden Demon entries via White Dwarf in a special insert. Now however they've embraced the internet and have an official place to put all of the sterling pieces from the community...
Whatever you might want to say about Games Workshop; Golden Demon was a superb look at what was on offer from the world of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. With the advent of Age of Sigmar too hopefully we have some more amazing dioramas, duels and more.
Just to annoy Lloyd here are a few models on plinths which caught my eye from their array of great entries.
First up we have this wonderful looking Freebooter. I love this because it could either work within the world of Warhammer OR Warhammer 40,000. A wonderful look at the greenskins!
Secondly we embrace the Dwarf and show off the Giantslayer diorama.
The model here is a mix of the Giant kit and one of the Slayers from the Malaki Makkinson's Goblin Hewer set. I think it shows off a rather neat little moment in this slayers life.
Lastly we're back with another duel where Ori from The Hobbit has taken a shot at this Goblin and knocked him off into the darkness.
You can go and find more amazing creations over on their website linked above.
What do you think?

What does it say about GW that @Brennon finally can write “Now however they’ve (GW) embraced the internet and …”
Great stuff from GW
just when you though it was safe to open a figure painting magazine (there back) to put my painting skills to shame.
(I’m with Lloyd. I hate plinths.)
The Maelstrom diorama is genius on the other hand.
I do have to admit I’m a bit tired of the whole Golden Demon malarkey to be perfectly honest. No disrespect to the extremely talented painters of course but after God knows how many years a lot of them are
somewhat..same-y. Totally subjectively, of course, but I’m actually and scandalously..bored?! Yet another heroic pose or tragic death in combat for Space Marines/ Eldar/ Orcs/ Tyranids/ Monsters etc etc etc..
Anyhow, great paintjob and conversion work as ever and always per usual.
Take it for what it is the best of the GW hobby, not the best of the Hobby in general. As any company painting competition
it’s okay, but the http://demonwinner.free.fr/ is a much better site covering a larger set of winners across more countries and years
I have always been a big fan of Golden Demon and there are certainly a mix of inspiration paint jobs and others that make you recognise your own limitations. I’m not a spray gun artist, preferring the feel of the brush and building up layers and washes until I’m satisfied that piece of monotoned metal or plastic or resin has come to life. With GW attempting to rebuild its community model through this site, I see this as a positive move particularly if it develops into a much more interactive model with submissions from painters developing their skills. It would… Read more »
I still have some of those Golden Demon Magazines going back to 2002, so I hope they expand the sites archive. It’ll be interesting to see how the models and painting have changed over the the years.
This is definitely a step in the right direction for GW, but really, it should of been done a long time ago.
Needs more zoom. You can’t really see the quality of the minatures with the resolution of the pictures.
Golden Demon entries have some of most impressive diodramas, customs and paint jobs one can see.
