Gangs Of Commorragh Hit The Skies For Warhammer 40,000
January 21, 2017 by brennon
We mentioned it last week but Gangs Of Commorragh is now available for you to snap up from the Games Workshop webstore ahead of its full release next weekend. Will you be picking up this new boxed game from the world of Warhammer 40,000?
So what exactly is happening in this game where Dark Eldar gangs are battling it out?
"The skies of Commorragh are equally as perilous as its bone-paved streets. The air above the shrouded spires thrums and darkens with roving murder-packs of Hellions and Reavers, engaging each other in vicious territorial battles.
Anti-grav skyboards and savagely fast jetbikes vy for supremacy – when a gang is broken, or completely destroyed, their opponents dance with sickening glee above the sanity-warping metropolis the Dark Eldar call their home."
The Reavers and Hellions are clashing in the skies as two players fight their way through some neat scenarios as part of a larger campaign.
This does sound like a fantastic idea from Games Workshop exploring a corner of the world very few gamers probably know much about. It helps that the models look fantastic too.
The game additionally feels like it's going to feed that shiny syndrome and bitz box-style delving that we enjoy. Getting stuck into customising your Dark Eldar and making them feel like individual characters is going to be a lot of fun.
Will you be giving it a go?

£35 for all that even at full price is worth it.
Just ordered my copy. From what I’ve seen of the game I’m looking forward to it.
Never have I wanted necromunda back so badly! Would love to see a skyboard v spyrer battle!
Any idea of the table size required ?
The one used in the Warhammer Live game looked maybe 3’x4′. I assume 4×4 will be about standard for a normal game then bigger for Sky War.
OK. Thanks.
I have avoided Games Workshop for quite a few years now but still play a little guessing game with myself when I see something new from them.
I try and guess the price then look it up on the website. Got to say this time I was absolutely no where near.
Competition or a change in policy ? Whatever it’s got to be a good thing.
Change in policy this is the 3rd entry tier flavour game they have released (lost patrol & gorechosen being the other 2)
missed those two
Nice to see a game like this from GW not focusing on Imperials/space marines.
Its the formations that would interest me most, it might mean buying 1 or 2 of these lol
£35 GBP is not $60 USD anymore. It’s $43. I can probably slow boat ship it for less than $17 so the pricing is wack.
over all this seems interesting plus it offers some nice value as well.
I wasn’t massively interested in this until I saw the price. £35 isn’t bad and isn’t breaking the bank if it turns out to not be particularly fun. But it turns out my brother ordered it so I don’t have to. Winner!
£35 for all this is great value.
Awesome value if you find use for the models !
I am pretty skeptical when it comes to the game itself.
All the games like this have been good and fun so far, don’t see why this won’t be the same, just not so quick to assemble and paint like Gorechosen or Stormcloud Attacks though.
This looks awesome. Incredible price. Excellent way to shift some old but brilliant models. A very intriguing setting for a game, and nice to see a neglected and non-imperial part of the universe getting some illumination. And the game looks pretty good too, with lots of scope for customisation and growing your gang over time.
Well played GW. There is a vibrancy about what they’re getting up to at the moment which is great.
looks a great way into eldar for a new player for only 35£.
£26.25 on dark sphere! the models at RRP would come to about £79 I believe too. I like that they are doing these little games using older plastic kits at affordable prices, a good idea. I want one with necrons though!
They’d be good for a dungeon crawler.
Looks like Dark Sphere have lost a regular customer. Tried ordering and cart says select postage method, there is nothing to chose, just the big deliver or pick up icon. No email contact and I can’t see a contact me button on Facebook
This game has lots of potential- I dunno if there are rules for altitude in there but it shouldn’t be too hard to come up with some. Then you could dive down into the clouds of pollution below to gain cover at the risk of getting poisoned- some custom terrain with walkways between towers would be nice, too…
Plus I’d like to see rules for Scourge packs and Raiders full of Dark Eldar warriors and/or Wyches fighting boarding actions!
I don’t want to be too critical of GW as at this price, and for these lovely miniatures, it’s hard to complain, but it’s a shame the card towers are so uninspiring. I’d love to see someone create a proper board for this game. The concept is great, but like Necromunda, I think it needs some cool scenery for scale and to make it look more interesting.
I guess the thing with GoC is that the terrain doesn’t need to be higher except to provide interest on the board. Still, it does look a bit flat so would be good to see some spires at different heights.
Oh, I get that the game is designed to be played just flying around the spire tips…
It’s just that it’s not very interesting to look at. And also as most tabletop wargames have some emphasis on movement and manoevre, having interesting terrain to move around is interesting.
I think it’s more a price point decision. Releases like this are about making old models “new” again by packaging them with a new game, and taking advantage of the fact GW have already made their money on them first time around to offer them at a big discount. To keep that price point low requires budget terrain. Investing in sculpting and tooling new plastic terrain would push the price up quite a bit, and defeat the point of doing it.
I honestly just want to be able to see more of the gameplay before getting this. Shame the gameplay video on their twitch site is for subscribers, paying ones that is 🙁
I don’t know if you have Amazon prime, but if you do then you can get one free twitch subscription per month as part of that. I’m using mine for warhammer live. The game looked fun with quite a bit going on. Some basics of the gameplay from what I can remember of the video: 1. Models activate alternately – ie one of mine then one of yours. But you do all moving alternately and then all shooting alternately etc. 2. There are arcs for turning and shooting etc – there is some depth to this, such as enemies being… Read more »
That sounds pretty rad!
Sell terrain separate for those that want better pieces and actually make a gameplay video before it hits the pre-order final day… i don’t know if is even worth buying as a game!
