Games Workshop Sight New Battle Sisters In Latest Bulletin!
July 9, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has put together a nice gallery of renders showing off the new Battle Sisters that you'll be getting soon to run your own full Adepta Sororitas army in Warhammer 40,000 once more.
We lead with a typical Battle Sister from the squad armed with her Boltgun, rushing forward into the action. We're seeing a lot of attention still going into the idea that these are hardened soldiers but also warriors of faith, so they have those flowing robes and plenty of icons too. The pose makes me think that this kit would work well as a push-fit range as well as a more complicated one.
As well as your classic line infantry you've also got a few Battle Sisters wielding special weapons. Here we have one of them with Storm Bolter in hand. You'll notice that she's got an awesome unhelmeted head too bearing an eyepatch from a previous wound.
You also have this Battle Sister carrying a flamer into battle, incinerating a daemon in the process. She looks awesome once again and I think you could have a lot of fun here with object source lighting. Imagine the flaming daemon corpse lighting her from underneath, casting dark shadows across her sinister features.
A couple of leader figures also found their way into the mix for this preview too. Here is the Sister Superior of the squad holding her Chainsword up high in what they term a very 'Warhammer' pose. That's code for 'foot-on-rock' syndrome by the way.
She does look rather awesome indeed though, again carrying through the look of Battle Sisters of old with a few modern tweaks here and there. The armour design is very reminiscent of the way Stormcast Eternals look nowadays so it would be cool to see what folks can do conversion-wise with these to take them into the Mortal Realms.
All of the models in the set will get the chance to wear helmets by the way, which is good for those who like their soldiers to be safety conscious. You can see one of the helmets on their Simulacrum Imperialis Bearer.
The detail here is shown off again, especially when it comes to that icon. I love the woodgrain effect that they have applied to it, building on the idea that this is a very old relic indeed.
Overall, I think that this is going to be a fun kit to work with but I imagine there will be certain ways to assemble them, cutting down on a lot of the individuality. You might end up with a lot of very similarly posed Battle Sisters however that's just my initial opinion. Games Workshop may surprise us.
Painted Battle Sister
As well as these renders, the team at Games Workshop also painted up one of their new Battle Sisters to show that they do actually exist.
I really like the return of the black scheme alongside the deep merlot red for their flowing cloaks. It means that the Battle Sisters cut an impressive figure on the tabletop. I think I'd like to see someone maybe try and invert the colours? It would be rather cool to see someone go with deep red armour followed by a lighter cloth, perhaps in an off-white or grey?
What do you make of the new Battle Sisters?

awesome! Have a SoB army from way back and always had a soft spot for them (in the days when they’d ally with mine and my brothers huge imperial guard army (with was mainly infantry based with as many missionaries in squads as you could shake a stick at)
Those make me even more hyped.
Is this the first “warhammer pose on molten demon” figure GW have produced? I do like the more sinister look the closed helms give the models. The bad hairdressing of the 41st millennium isn’t going to ruin the look of my army!
She’s hot on the heels of that FW Blood Angels chap with his foot on a daemon arm (though that was intact, if disembodied)
Chapter Master Raldoron doesn’t have his foot on a Daemon arm he has it on a small rock. On the scenic base that you can put him on for display there’s a Daemon arm in front of him but he’s not standing on it.
Ha. True. Good spot
@brennon you’ll be wanting the Order of the Bloody Rose then. They have a deep red armour, with black robes that have a white/light grey lining
Sounds good to me! A good opportunity to break out the Contrast paints perhaps.
That’d work. Alternatively priming with something like AP Dragon Red would give you a deep, rich red to start from.
I’m just mildly irked that I’ve still not gotten any of my Raging Heroes Battle Sisters painted and I’ve had them for about a year before GW announced the revamp of the range….
For power armour of any kind the quickest and most effective way to paint it is using colour primer, wash and drybrush. Then re apply an undercoat of either Wrathbone or Grey Seer and use contrast paints on everything else.
But, but the resurrect the Battle Sisters…..but wat about…no no. not going to say it cus that will reset the clock
I have been waiting for years : D
Stupid GW ! Release the chicks !
Raging Heroes for the win. These look awkward by comparison: stiff poses, faces like 40 miles of bad road. Looks like they were rushed.
Drip feeding the models again.
These look great. The only real question is how many I buy. The 2 models already released have 32mm bases so if I want to mix my current SoB with the new then I will have to re-base them (That’s 3500 points, including 40 Cawdor cultists and 12 Missionary / Preachers). Then transport / Support, since there may be a replacement of the Mk II Rhino coming do we get new Immolators? Please, Pleas, Please Forge World, bring back the Repressor model and for the love of the Emperor can we get rid of the awful calliope and give us… Read more »
The sisters look great but those giant bolt guns look all wrong (especially one handed). Wish they had done something more elegant.
It’s a bolter. It’s an assault rifle firing a 20mm AA shell. It’s not going to be small in the hands of a normal person.
They manage to make lady sized power armour so why not make lady sized bolguns?
The armor is smaller because the lady is smaller than a 7ft space marine.
A bolter shell isn’t smaller just because a lady is holding the bolter. Last I checked most militaries don’t make different sized weapons for women..
wasn’t really the point I was making ?
(1) these look mono-pose
(2) lots of incorporated terrain in bases
That often means these are easy-to-build starter set figs.
(1) Almost every plastic set of figures for 2 years have been mono pose. This is the new standard.
(2) 2 out of 6 figures have terrain so again, pretty much the new standard.
No, these are not push fit figures. These are the equivalent or the current Primaris sprues. I would hope there is a starter box and I look forward to some kind of starter army deal at the web site but, as stated above, that would require vehicles and I hope theynget new designs as well.
