Games Workshop Bring Back Citadel Combat Cards This Christmas
December 18, 2017 by brennon
Games Workshop is certainly bringing back the retro games as they announced this weekend that Citadel Combat Cards is coming back with a release this Christmas. Take a look at the new set...
They even made a rather funny trailer for the game which you can check out above. The set consists of sixty cards which split down into Space Marines & Chaos (thirty each).
Each of the cards apes its use on the battlefield and the role that it fulfils. You then combine played cards on the tabletop from your hand in order to boost and support the strength of your other combatants.
If you've got a Warhammer 40,000 lover in your life then this might be a good shout for someone as a stocking filler. Admittedly, it's going to arrive JUST before Christmas but that could be a good last minute gift.
Will you be picking these up?

This game was a blast to play over lunch, we used a multi-player variant with extra decks that I can’t remember whether it was official or something we hacked together. Oof, this one is hitting the nostalgia hard.
The parody is strong in this one.
Reminds me of if Uno was an anime
There is so much card game anime parody in that one that it’s funny. Then again it does remind me about that old commercial for game Crossfire.
They killed Conquest for this.
What a trade off.
But Conquest was a FFG game using the GW IP, so more than likely the core game mechanics themselves were not owned by GW.
Original Combat Cards were from 90’s so they are pretty much just bringing back that game with new cards that have new pictures. Conquest was licensed LCG from FFG that died because FFG lost that license.
They still killed it by pulling the license.
Combat Cards!!!
I loved these when I was a smaller kid 🙂
Check out how they looked back then:
Great for the play ground or traveling.
Just watched the trailer – wow
I love how they’ve kept the same logo from the 1980’s for this. I had a couple of packs as a kid.
Charming 🙂
Sold, gonna be getting my self some, should be fun for some pub based gaming…
Finally a GW product I can afford to play! 🙂
Time to put on Realm of Chaos by Bolt Thrower and I’m good to go.
Hell yeah to bolt thrower!
ok … someone call in one of those alphabet soup acronym organisations, because the boys (& girls) at GW clearly have been using some kind of mind altering substance.
Did they find their secret stash from the 80’s?
Did they use a few copies of the early white dwarf to smoke ?
I mean … I knew they were getting a little less deadly serious, but this *eh* thing* is *eh* another level of crazy.
So dear GW, please share with the rest of the world.
GW trump’s cards?
That is a freaking brilliant advert. Love it.
As for the cards themselves… are there only 3 stats? That makes it a bit less interesting than the original unless there’s a mechanic I’m missing.
Indeed a funny promo vid, should be a decent enough lunchbreak game. Cheap to develop and produce as well. Clever girl recycling assets there GW, clever girl 😉
My combat cards sets have titans and squats inside. No one can beat that cards.
Mine had the old Balrog from way back when (he could best the Bloodthirster).
