Games Workshop Battle For Vedros 40k Set To Be Available At GAME
November 5, 2016 by brennon
GAME are (probably quite surprisingly nowadays) still a major force on the high street when it comes to video games but they are now joining forces with Games Workshop to offer the kid-friendly Battle For Vedros range to the UK...
By 'kid-friendly' we mean that the sets have been made as good entry level sets for younger gamers to get into using some of the existing models that were available as part of Black Reach during an older edition of Warhammer 40,000.
Paints and individual squads are also going to be available, possibly building on the wave of support growing behind the likes of Dawn of War III.
Do you think this is going to mark an interesting change for Games Workshop going forward? Considering how often people used to get the two shops confused around my local area it seems apt that GAME are now carrying the 40k line-up, albeit with a smaller range with a tighter focus towards younger gamers.
Let us know in the comments below...

Anything that makes it easier to get started in any game is good.
Although I do think that in addition to easy-to-build models you also need beginner friendly rules.
ie : a mini rulebook version of the rules isn’t going to be good enough.
You need something to get people started from zero experience and then provide them with the tools to make an informed decision when they change whatever forces they get in the starter set.
The upcoming ‘Kick off’ starter set for Guildball should be a good baseline reference.
So GW is re-using those old sculpts from AOBR boxed set back from 5th edition. It would be interesting to see content of that box in order to see if SM Dreadnought and Ork Deffkoptas are included.
yes a dreadnought & 1 kopta is in the box according to the unboxing could see the blades for the kopta.
may be a good way into 40K if the price is good.
I think Infinity does a good job of drip-feeding the rules with their Red Veil starter box. Obviously a bit more expensive.
I’m surprised they haven’t gone with AoS starter sets in GAME as well though, given that the rules are a load easier and there is still a draw with the golden boys of Sigmar.
I would imagine because the 40k stuff is recognisable from Dawn of War and other games is why they have it there: brand recognition, a gateway purchase.
Age of Sigmar has had nothing in the way of video games, with the last fantastical Warhammer PC game being released being set in the Old World. While more accessible as a game to play, it wouldnt draw people in as much.
Ahh, I hadn’t even made the connection! Very valid point.
Saying that I would love an AoS game. Lord knows what sort of game it’d be. Regardless it’ll be nice to see more people drawn to the hobby.
Age of Sigmar would be a MOBA, for sure. Giant, World of Warcraft characters with bright colours and huge silhouettes. Every faction fighting for the sake of fighting, all coming back from the dead, all being giant macho men or tiny little elf “women”. Everything about the look and the lore already screams ‘League of Legends’, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to see it playing out that way. They’re even doing the MOBA thing with Silver Tower, where a motley collection of different champions with their own passive, active and ultimate skills roam around fighting together. Instead of Summoner’s… Read more »
It’s quite an interesting move to sell this via a video game chain although I can it making a certain amount of sense to have this on the shelves near Dawn of War III
Video game stores sell so many other things now like toys, clothes, nerd culture accessories, I think this is a shrewd business move, truth be told.
Really confused (actually not confused at all) by teh bitchy comments on facebook regarding this. Its a good move , more hobbyists is a good thing kids…
BEN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ” Going Forward” you said “Going Forward” NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! “Going Forward” is a phrase that should never be used by people of integrity such as yourself. It is the last ditch phrase used by Politicians , spin doctors, lawyers, company execs, departmental managers, sporting coaches etc when they DON’T HAVE A #$%%$ CLUE. it is the last resort of lick-spittles and sycophants who want to create the image of change and growth when none is happening. It has been over used, so much by the above people, that it has, in many quarters, that it has become a “bull%#!t”… Read more »
Anyone else think the release date chosen for this is a little insensitive?
I remember when Game sold RPGs…. briefly. Hopefully this will be a nice intro into tabletop gaming for video gamers. I doubt it will last long – the use of older miniatures suggests a half-hearted push behind this from GW – but those gamers that it attracts in the time it lasts will no doubt feel it was very worthwhile.
@norse – just noticed the release date. Yes, I agree – that’s a terrible day to launch a wargaming product. Don’t know why they couldn’t wait a day.
@shinygames Hopefully it’s just incompetence and not a deliberate choice! But you know marketing people – the release day has to match the release month. I’m looking forward to this being available though.
