Games Day UK 2011 Coverage
September 24, 2011 by brennon
Once again its that time of year where Games Workshop put on their massive convention, Games Day.
Held in Birmingham at the LG Arena, Games Day is the place for masses of participation games, displays, Forge World, Golden Demon, Black Library, third party companies and this year Armies on Parade.
This time it seems bigger than ever with obviously the new Storm of Magic and Dreadfleet being the centre of most people’s attention. As well as that there is the return of William King to the Games Workshop flock with his new Black Library book coming soon. Talking of Black Library, once again lots of books for the coming months will be available as well as a massive limited edition anthology. And let’s not forget the mass of Black Library authors there to sign your books (I have my eye on Gav Thorpe and Nick Kyme myself!).
Forge World will be hanging out there too, with exclusive looks at their work processes and fantastic models, many of which we have seen through this very site in our breaking news stories. More awesome models will be there in the form of Golden Demon, and I will certainly be picking the best of the best from that to show off on the twitter feed.
A new entry to the Games Day repertoire is Armies on Parade. Whole armies, resplendent with boards will be on show from stores all over the country and we as visitors get to vote on them too! It should be a fantastic opportunity to see plenty of different armies hopefully.
As well as everything from the Games Workshop family being on show, third party companies will also be hanging around. Space Marine will be playable on the show floor and maybe Dawn of War & Blood Bowl if last year is anything to go by. On top of this Fantasy Flight will also have a booth with demos of their upcoming games and of course some for sale too! Warhammer: Invasion and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay will be on sale. Warhammer 40,000 Roleplays will also be out there and something I am particularly interested in; Blood Bowl: Team Manager!
I will be endeavouring to cover all of this for you guys through out fantastic twitter feed; Beasts of War Live! Down on the arena floor I will be taking photos and posting those up live for you guys to see.
Let me know what you guys would like to see covered and I will try and make sure I get a look at it!
Don’t forget to say hi!

Right on @brennon. Hope you have a fun day. Hopefully, you’ll be giving us a sneak peek at anything upcoming from Forgeworld.
Take part in a demo of BBTM if you can. I tried it at GenCon and it was buckets of fun. If they have any on sale, get it ASAP because it’s likely to sell out quickly.
Hint: Play as the Orcs and use the Troll to blitz everyone.
A friend of mine is sprinting right across the arena to get it as quick as possible lol!
Excellent! They managed to sell out in just four hours at GenCon. Sadly, I didn’t realise this until the second day 🙁
ill have to keep an eye out to say hi. 🙂
see ya there brennon, i’ll be stuffing make and take sprues into a bag. nothing like free stuff courtesy of GW 🙂
Really wanted to go but missed out on tickets >.<
show me some necrons man! puh-leeze.
(jealous!!!!)
I will be there. PM me and I’ll give you my mobile number. I will have something on me you can take back for Andy.
necrons had better be there!!
No Necrons :O(
not even a mention.
I just got back from it a few hours ago. It was a bit disappointing. Forge world stuff was cool to look at and chatted to some of the design team.
Just got back myself. The queues were horrendous to buy anything, but the event itself was fun as always.
the queues weren’t to bad once they got moving. got some nice new models for my army and a new book so they were worth the wait, for me at least
I’d classify 90 minutes queueing to pay as worse than “not that bad”.
No mention of Necrons? Games Day has turned into an in-person White Dwarf magazine – completely useless….
