Forge World’s Legio Cybernetica Marches Another Automata Out!

Forge World have another new piece in their collection for those of you wanting to make up an awesome mechanical army for the grim dark future. See what you think of the Castellax Battle-Automata with Darkfire Cannon...
It's quite an awesome looking walker and I love the amount of detail they've gone into across these Automata. These kind of machinations really do give the world of Warhammer 30k and 40k their distinct imagery and it's great to see them doing more.
"In battle, the Castellax is animated by an aggressive machine spirit, its armoured endoskeleton making it near impervious during its assault. It is at its most deadly, however, when paired with the arcane and lethal darkfire cannon. Unleashing screaming beams of pure darkness, armour, flesh and stone boil away with their touch, and even the most heavily armoured vehicles can be torn apart by their hellish un-light."
With the potential of an Adeptus Mechanicus book on the way for Warhammer 40,000 do you feel like stocking up on Forge World alternatives to what's probably going to be quite a plastic range if it goes ahead?

That weapon on the shoulder looks almost Eldar in style.
I think that might be deliberate – it has been hinted in the fluff that, for all their protestations of ‘human technological purity’, the Mechanicum (and later the Mechanicus), are very interested in xeno-tech and make great efforts to reverse engineer it. While this is usually without success and sometimes results in disaster, that is not always the case, as can be seen from some of the exotic weapons used by orgainisations like the Deathwatch. I have always really liked the Castellax, and indeed all Forgeworld’s clasess of battel automata.
This version very much continues that trend. If only I had more cash, i would be very much tempted to start a 30K Taghmata army, and if the rumoured 40K Mechanicus army does come to pass, the I will probably take the plunge, and a few of these might well pop up in my force one way or another.

Well I’m sure they have some round about logic to it all, such as mankind must have invented this in the dark days and it became lost only to fall into some evil xenos hands. But thank the Emperor we got it back from them and can unlock our rightful past.

30k seems to be a much more stable platform than 40k which seems to change at the drop of a hat (or sales %). Think Horus Heresy here I come, I do like them Salamanders
I like it a lot, here’s a good question for every one if the (Heresy) bypassed the (Ultramar) region apart from (calth) why haven’t the empire rearmed from forge worlds like (konor) in that sector the only major action was the hive fleet attacking in 745.M41
It didn’t. The Word Bearers and World Eaters launched attacks across Ultramar in the wake of the Calth battle. In the ruinous aftermath of the Heresy, Ultramar must have been broken up as the Ultramarines Legion was split into various chapters.
Yes the Ultramarines as all the chapters were reorganised after the Heresy so no one chapter was too large to deal with if they revolted against the empire. I didn’t know that the Calth battle spread through that sector is that in one of GW’s books? if so which book was it in @angelicdespot thanks
@zorg ‘Betrayer’ by Aaron Dembski-Bowden has another major battle in Ultramar, and mentions there being plenty of others. Possibly ‘Mark of Calth’ does too. It’s a compliation and I forget which bits I’ve read where, but definitely the first book I mentioned describes this wider war.
thanks now on my wish list I have started to get the Heresy series to read get some every chance I get as they are getting harder to get in some places @angelicdespot
@zorg – I can’t reply to your other post – if you haven’t already read Dan Abnett’s ‘Know No Fear’, then read that first. It’s set before ‘Betrayer’ and in some ways is a prequal. It’s also one of the best books in the series, in my opinion. Betrayer is also good though. I can’t remember where Mark of Calth comes in the series – certainly it’s after Know No Fear though.
thanks again I am collecting them in order mostly so am just going to read them in order to prevent any confusion with story lines as with other GW books there is some crossovers with different book/author’s so better safe than sorry. Lol @angelicdespot
just received (battle for the abyss) has the start of the Ultramar sector Heresy war @angelicdespot
@zorg I hesitate to say this, but Battle for the Abyss is in my opinion one of the worst books I’ve ever read. The only good thing about it is the cover art. One of the many reasons I dislike it is that it has virtually no connection to anything else in the series. In theory it is a prequal to the battle of Calth, but in practice it might as well not exist. Given how bad I think it is, perhaps it’s a good thing that it’s not actually connected to anything else!
