Forge World’s Armillus Dynat Commands You In Battle & A Flying Surprise
March 27, 2015 by brennon
Forge World have released two new kits onto their webstore for pre-order at the beginning of April. See what you think of Armillus Dynat and The Xiphon Pattern Interceptor which came as quite the surprise!
Master Strategist
"Armillus Dynat, the Harrowmaster of the Alpha Legion, has been a feared strike commander since his name came to prominence during the invasion of Paramar. Known to possess strategic genius, his style of warfare is as intricate as it is unorthodox. Using fast moving, heavily armoured vehicles and close air support, he will split enemy formations apart before crushing them without mercy."
Armillus is the latest mutli-part resin kit for the Horus Heresy Character Series and comes with both a gaming base and a scenic base which you can see above. He's quite the masterful sculpt and I like the work that's gone into the scales on his chest armour and leggings.
Supporting Space Marines From The Skies
On the other surprising side of things we have the Xiphon Pattern Interceptor...
"With unparalleled speed and manoeuvrability, the Xiphon pattern Interceptor saw increasing service in the Legiones Astartes during the dark days of the Horus Heresy. Based on ancient designs, the void and atmospheric craft carried heavy armaments into battle, allowing it to destroy both air and ground targets with apparent ease. Its pair of twin-linked lascannon and Xiphon rotary missile launcher combined with the Interceptor’s speed and agility to make it a deadly opponent from which the enemies of Mankind could not hide."
...and as you might imagine they serve the Space Marine sin battle and look like relatively awesome flyers compared to some of the other things we've seen for the Warhammer 40,000 counterparts. It will be interesting to see people make some cool traitor versions of these too.
What do you think of both hero and flyer?

No melee weapons on the flyer? Or am i not looking close enough? 😉
It is really hard not to like these miniatures but the base should be optional buy in my opinion
Looks like a space marine Viper.. I love it! 😀
What the Frak!
Space Marines don’t understand aerodynamics.
Those wing edges lol
Space Marines don’t need your heretical aerodynamics, they stay aloft by the Will of the Emperor and by virtue of The Rule of Cool….
haha very true!
They also know no fear, it probably helps a lot while boarding some of those flyers
With a flat leading edge you’d have to be fearless… no thanks.
Every Alpha legion commander seems to be an unorthodox but brilliant strategist. I guess this acts contrary to Guilliman who would go on to write his tic tacs in the Codex Astartes.
I appreciate it is hard to write in a snippet how these guys were actually unorthodox, but Guilliman wasn’t an idiot, and the Codex Astartes I think has gotten a rap with regards to how strict and how closely followed it actually is.
I don’t think Graham MacNeil’s depiction of Guilliman writing the Codex Astartes in that short story helped.
Good point though. Dan Abnett did wonders in changing perceptions of the Ultramarines as dull and unimaginative. The Codex Astartes is supposed to encourage inovation and unorthodoxy!
Those are rather nice.
There are only so many incarnations of a bloke in the same power armour I can take before yawning unfortunately. That said, they have done marvelous wonders in making all the Space Marine personalities actually look different and individual. If I was new to 40K I would be loving these, but I am old and jaded and enjoying the plethora of other gaming miniatures on the market. I do like the Space Marine “Viper” though, well said @jakeyab. 🙂
Swords and axes on heroes is really becoming sleep inducing .. how about you pose a veteran marine taking position with a heavy bolter, base littered with exploded corpses of those battered by enormous exploding shells. Have him reload a heavy weapon, foot resting not on a frakin rock but a dead eldar or whatever. Pose your minis FW, tell a story without standard running pose in close combat. Rule of cool? Im pretty sure it can be done with guns too.
Why have a shoulder-mounted rail gun, when you can pick up a pointy stick?
rule of cool man, rule of cool 😛
They did actually do a special character with a heavy bolter… But unfortunately it was a FW event only mini…
a heavy bolter is pretty big so someone must have noticed and had it replaced 😉
and what a mini it was, really fitted with the chapter models and a nice little rule set for him.
JOY!!!! two Mini’s/Models I’m gunna have end of 😉 Awesome stuff!!
like the Xiphon fighter.
Both are good. I can see the wing design similarities between this flyer and the DA fliers. I would be wanting to paint the Ravenwood design on to these wings.
I’m blown away by that Alpha Legion mini, him and the Contemptor look amazing… just a shame about their event mini being sky high price if your not going to an event for what is a very average mini.
