Forge World Unleash Russ & An Ultramarine Herald This Weekend
October 22, 2016 by brennon
Forge World are today releasing not only the mighty Leman Russ of the Space Wolves but also an Ultramarine Legion Herald too. Of course, we have to kick off with the snarling wolf lord himself...
The mighty Russ is shown here with his brutal looking sword and axe in hand, charging towards the enemy on Prospero to lay waste to these sorcerers and spellcasters. The armour detail is amazing and the work across the whole model has created a Primarch I'd be proud to follow.
Additionally, this weekend at Games Workshop stores and Warhammer World you'll be able to pick up an Ultramarine Herald.
Holding aloft the symbol of his Legion he is a beacon for the rest of his battle brothers to rally around. I'm not sure the model stands up as nicely as others in the Forge World range but its still a special piece you could include amidst your larger force.
Will you be picking up the snarling wolf this weekend?

When I originally thought about what Russ would look like I assumed he would be bearded but the clean shaven look really works. He clearly suffers from early stage beard itch like me.
These looks really cool. I love the green tint to the armour on Russ.
@wesadie1969 The reason for the clean shaven ness was explained by FW at some point: he shares the same genetics, though not all the same genetics, as the other Primarchs. Someone mentioned him being akin to Fulgrim in appearance in some ways: long light hair and beardless. Not sure why though.
Now that you mention it, he does look very similar to the Fulgrim sculpt.
Cheers.
Are Ultramarines always so stoic and unmoving ?
Or is it simply hard to create a more dynamic looking sculpt for standard bearers ?
He looks like he’s waiting to catch his breath after walking a few minutes.
Unlike Russ who looks like he has killed a squad of traitors and he’s about to kill a dozen more because they told him that blond hair and no beard makes him look weak …
I get the impression from their lore that Stoicism is definitely a big part of Ultramarine philosophy. They’re very spartan when you read about them.
Also, I think with it being a herald model that they have picked a less action packed and more regal pose. I think it works for an Ultramarine Standard Bearer in terminator armour
He has a face like a sack of smashed arseholes and he gets to carry a metal pple into a shooting war I think that probably requires a stoic approach. Base sculpt is nice, face aside, but legion specific is not for me.
He’s very easy to convert – only Ultramarines references are his shoulder and knee pads. I picked up a few to do some conversions for my other legions alongside my Ultras
he looks to (standard) to be a special character apart from the sword perhaps?
@limburger The Russ comment put a cool image in my head about how badass he looks. It would be a good diorama. As for the last line it made me chuckle. ‘Ill show you a beard… of your own blood!’
Russ looks great but to me something seems off with the ultramarine sculpt. It might just be the angle but his shoulder and head area look a bit weird.
That really makes him young and energetic looking.
I like Russ a lot, so much Wolves might be my loyalist legion. Always been beardless, prefer this to the original though as he seems to protray being something above average human appearance in the sculpt of the face.
I could not care less about Smurf Herald but Russ does look really good.
Russ is impressive as is his paint job
the alpha dog is looking great.
I wonder, with the fighting pose whether Russ’s model will fit with Magnus’s to give a mini combat diorama when they do him, similar to what they did Fulgrim and Ferrus Manus.
(Note I am talking about Forgeworlds as yet unmade Magnus model not the garbage bin revelation Demon Primarch made by GW proper)
I definitely looks that way (in mid fight).
