Forge World Power Up A New Blood Angel Dreadnought
October 26, 2019 by brennon
Forge World has added another Dreadnought into the mix for those playing as the Blood Angels during the Horus Heresy. Here we have the Blood Angels Legion Contemptor-Incaendius Class Dreadnought.
This ornate piece of ancient battlefield technology comes armed with some nasty looking weapons. You have options to unveil the deadly Talons of Perdition, each with an in-built iliastus-pattern assault cannon. So, if you're looking to cause a serious problem for the enemy up close and personal, this is the kind of Dreadnought you want by your side.
I must say that as time has gone by, I've started to not really like the Contemptor Dreadnought design anymore. I thought it was pretty cool, to begin with, but now I'm just seeing a bit of an awkward creation that just doesn't work for me.
I actually much prefer the Dreadnought designs from Warhammer 40,000 which have that tomb look going on. I think it gives them a much more grim countenance which is perfect for their job and the background behind their creation.
I'm sure there are those out there who like the Contemptors, and that's grand, but I think I'll stick with my futuristic tin cans.
What do you make of this Dreadnought design?

A Contemptor dread with a jump pack? That is kind of impractical and admittedly stupid…AND I LOVE IT. I’m surprised other dreads don’t incorporate these features to do away with drop pods and overcome their abysmal speed.
When the inevitable date vs abaddon rehash of horus vs sanguinius the 40k fluff is building to happens, I will be very upset if I don’t get a similar mini with a power axe as I have been saying for years the only solution for the aweful Dante mini I’ve hated since Mike mcveys shades of brown proto nmm paint job in the 2nd Ed codex is a jump pack dread!!!
Did they say if it would get 40k rules? Would love one for my Death Company.
I’m not sure if they’ll give this one a full datasheet, but you could probably make your own by taking the Contemptor datasheet and giving it the Jump Pack Assault rule from the Assault Marines.
I’ve always like the 30k look!
Still tempted to someday build my Imperial Fists a 30k unit.
An assault dreadnought DIFFERENT
Assault dreadnought are the 30K equivalent of Primaris Lieutenants. 😉
Lol
If this thing can jump then why is it standing around like that ?
Shouldn’t it have a more *eh* jumpy pose to reinforce that aspect ?
hes going through pre-launch?
You’d need to add a large flame/smoke effect to sell that … and it would look a bit awkward.
possibly or at least smoke.
Assuming it’s like the other Contemptors it’ll be really posable. Odd that they chose that pose though yeah
Given the way it’s got its fists pointed out and it’s leaning forward, I like to imagine it’s coming in for a landing and unleashing its assault cannons.
Now do a ‘modern’ Dreadnought with jump jets.
…..they still look like an American “old timey” pot bellied stove to me 🙁
