Fight Through The Fire & Fists With New 40K Previews
September 19, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has previewed more from the world of Warhammer 40,000 this week with a peek at two new characters for those picking up Space Marines as their army of choice. Leading the way we have Adrax Agatone for the Salamanders.
One would have assumed that we would have been introduced to Tu'Shan for the Salamanders as the iconic model leading the way for this Chapter into their new Primaris era but instead, we have a different Champion popping up.
Adorned in the familiar green armour which is festooned with trinkets and trophies he also is cloaked in the skin of one of the monstrous firedrakes from their home planets. He also bears a flame-spouting weapon and a hammer which is ready to crush skulls.
Stoic Defenders
Stepping away from the fire we also had a peek at a new Imperial Fists character, Tor Garadon.
Again, Vorn Hagen is the Chapter Master but we're instead taking a look at another champion who may be leading the way when the head honcho is too busy. This might be a way of them notifying us that there are going to be a lot more Chapter-specific elements coming to the tabletop for the Space Marines.
I really like the look of Agatone, even though his name sounds like one of the colours you'd find on Photoshop. Garadon is also very cool although he does feel a little more cartoony thanks to his Chip Hazard looking face.
Are you going to be adding these to your collection?

A bit more cartoony? If I ever saw a space marine looking more like an action toy than actual action toys *this* is it.
I think that might be because he’s in yellow but I think if he had a different face he’d look more like his other Space Marine battle-brothers.
@brennon agree the colour gives that impression though head does look a bit ‘Small Soldiers’ Chip Hazzard.
I guess the colour adds… but the hair… the HAIR… and that chin line…
yup!
I think he looks excellent. But then I’m definitely more fond of the satire era of 40k 😀
Definitely Chip Hazzard – but I still like it.
The paint jobs on these are gorgeous. The names are terrible. Foot on ruined battlements, and foot on sloping lava thing is just foot on rock again!
The salamander would be great for hellsreach game’s.
The Salamander looks very cool. The head on Imperial Fister looks ridicolous just like on his artwork. Headswap incoming.
Salamander guy looks fine but that Imperial Fist guy looks too cartoony and just silly.
They’re really doing a great job with the new Space Marine characters. I’m not a Salamanders fan, but Agatone looks just great with his flamer and power hammer, and Garadon just looks ready to pulverize some suckers. My favorite detail has to be the extra bits on his power fist, almost like he’s equipped part of a Mechanicus seismic hammer to it. Definitely silly and over-the-top, but it’s a load of fun. It’s nice when GW is serious, but it’s also great to see them embracing a bit of the inherent goofiness of 40K and running with it.
I have never collected Space Marines but Salamanders are my favorite chapter. This may be my next army
Agreed with most people on this, the Salamander guy looks great, but the Imperial Fist head looks silly. Maybe with a different skin tone it might look less plastic and cartoony.
It’s a shame because the rest of the model I think looks good, nice and chunky, and a very impressive Power Fist (It’s in the name!).
I would like to see what he looks like painted up my subtly.
Unarticulated backpack guns? No thanks (make it look more like a transformer toy). GW can do better than this, it’s bloody awful 🙁
More than likely the attachment point is just not visible from the angle he’s photographed at. And since it’s a separate part, you could just put your own servo-arm on.
If you go over to the GW news site, there’s a 360….

…and as you can see it’s just “stuck” on top of the backpack in a completely lazy kitbash manner (in fact I think most kitbashers would make a better effort here). When you’re paying primo prices for a GW mini, you expect them to at least pay SOME attention to detail 🙁
I liked Warhammer and WH40K when it was cartoony. And I’m not sorry.
I think the Imperial Fists guy’s head is a victim of being too clean. I think a dirtier face with grime from the battlefield and stubble would make it look better. Like @onlyonepinman said in a painting thread about the Guilliamn head: I don’t think its bad I just think the paint job has let it down.
But I can see why GW produce paint jobs the way they do, their job is to show off the detail. But I think that Imperial Fist guys stubble would look better if it was a little darker
I don’t like the flat top heads on space marines. That is the main reason I haven’t bought scouts. I’m hoping that can be swapped out for a helmeted head.
The sally minder looks busier than a bishop’s hat. I would hate to go to work with a raging fire behind my head all day, but for a dramatic pose, it does the job, I guess.
