A nice thing about the Phoenix Lords now is they can join any unit they don’t have to stick with there own Aspect Shrine so it opens up some nice combos. Also I think Karandras is a little better than you give him credit for I mean with the Scorpions Claw hes hitting at s8 ap2 at Initiative 7 its like a powerfist without unwieldy, thats pretty nasty. Tho is he worth the points and the loss of a farseer, I don’t know. At games over 2000pts with double FOC I would say yes otherwise it would have to be… Read more »
He has crushing blow so that s9 or 10 depending on whether its applied before or after the claw. He also has his super mandiblaster which is an auto hit attack at initiative 10 that is strength 6 ap-
he doesn’t have crushing blow actually… he has stalker and monster hunter… bring it swarm lord 😉
Kharandras is awesome now…..definately more useful to me than Illic….and a hell of a lot more survivable.
Good Irish tan their Andy!!!! Bright red for a few days, then back to albino white lol.
Dont think its sunburn mate, It’s a skin condtion 🙁
Andy, you are correct mate. If someone has a BS skill that can have a re-roll (6+) and they have another skill to cause a re-roll (Master-crafted, etc), the re-roll of the Master-crafted will be the re-roll. E.G On the Eldar HQ with Preferred Enemy Necrons (Can’t remember the name), the re-roll will be the Preferred Enemy roll, so it will be 2+ and a re-roll of 2+. If the enemy is not Necrons, it will be 2+ then 3+.
Just to echo the others. Karandras for me has been the HQ choice to gain most from the codex now the Scorpion claw is no longer a powerfist/claw. Strength X 2 AP2 and no downside also the 2 bladestorm shots it gives him on the way in.
did anyone else’s audio get really quiet for a bit at a few places in the video? kind of makes it hard to hear what you 2 were saying sometimes.
yeah, i think the sounds mics weren’t working too well
Karandras is plain nasty now, especially if with fellow scorpions (as exarch with fist goes at their initiative as well). Have a challenge, good old exarch excepts and Karandras gets to chew up the rest.
Farseers are still the bread and butter for me and as you can take precience in divernation and guide in rune of fate for double twin linked..very nice. Especially as guide has a 24″ range.
I found the spiritseer a useful second HQ for making my wraithguard troop (d-scyths are horrible).
I certainly think a in depth review of the phoenix lords needs to be done as the level of info here was very poor. I also got the impression that the codex had been skimmed and was being read as we went as it was missing all the important rules etc that the lord choices have. I got the impression that there was little if any prep for the video and that it was being winged as they went and not up to the quality of previous reviews. To name some things that a further read should have turned up… Read more »
I don’t know how much of that problem (for want of a better word) is down to…just how Eldar are. Which video do you talk about all the Exarch powers? Do you leave it for the video’s when the Exarchs appear with their respective squads, or do you talk about all of them when the Autarachs appear, or the Pheonix Lords themselves? As said in the video, which HQ you pick, depends on what your army is going to be like and how they all interact with each other. Maybe the problem is down to how these videos have been… Read more »
i do think this much of the issue especially when compared to their recent excellent service on these vids although missing out some of the phoenix lord specific abilities e.g. asurmen getting 3 warlord traits seems a little off… Nice to see @beerogre back though 🙂
Interesting. I’ve had an unpainted Karandras in my collection since he was first released (old man that I am) maybe he will finally get painted…..although he is a bit of a short arse next to most other GW minis these days. Suppose its harder to draw line of sight on him, sneaky bugger.
I think you probably should have mentioned how Farseers have the ability to take both Guide and Prescience at the same time, it’s pretty powerful.
Take another look at asurmen..
With D3 warlord traits, if you get fate’s messenger, you can not fail an armor save.
Then add the shield of grace’s 4+ invul to that, and I’d say he’s pretty damn good now.
@shadowbreed Thanks I’d missed that completely but I don’t think you can re roll a re roll so I think a second roll of a 1, would take a wound. Still you’d have to pretty damn unlucky to lose him.
Jain Zar is really awesome now, that I can agree to. Also the Autarch has become a very viable choice. Farseers may still have their place but they are by no means a “must have” any longer, even if it is just because “guide” is no longer imperative. The Phoenix lords all in all can do well, in lists build around Aspects especially so. Joining and supporting what ever unit is in need of their specialty. EJB makes weapons relentless (if I am not mistaken), so the reaper launcher will be working nicely for an Autarch on bike. Behold the… Read more »
