DOOM Meets Warhammer 40,000 With Boltgun Coming In May
April 12, 2023 by brennon
Auroch Digital's Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is a new video game coming to consoles and PC on 23rd May. You only have to wait until next month before you are able to dive in and experience what would happen if the id Software of the 90's had been able to dive in and use the Warhammer licence.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun — Trailer
As you can see by the trailer, Boltgun is a high-octane DOOM-like experience where you're going to be using the weapons of the Space Marines to blow daemons and more into pixelated bits. It doesn't seem like the gameplay lets up either with your Space Marine character, Malum Caedo, wading through dozens of enemies at a time, swapping between iconic weapons as you turn your foes into mush.

I am a big fan of this style of graphics and it's one that we've been seeing pop up a lot recently. The retro vibes really work for Warhammer 40,000 and work nicely to highlight the hyperviolence of Games Workshop's grimdark world. I am already sold on getting stuck in and playing this when it lands next month.

As well as getting some more looks at gameplay, we also got to hear from the voice actor who will be taking on the role of Malum Caedo. Rahul Kohli has been deep in the Warhammer side of the hobby since last year and has since found himself falling in love with the Ultramarines (can't save everyone) and doing a bit of painting himself.
He was so inspired when he got to take up the role that he put together this awesome conversion of his character from the game, Malum Caedo. I'd say that's a pretty faithful take on the character from Boltgun artwork!

The adventures of Boltgun are going to be kicking off next month and I'm very eager to give it a go. It would be fun to see more companies work on games like this. Not massive big-budget titles but smaller indie efforts that go beyond a seeming cash-grab opportunity. We shall have to see how the game plays of course but the videos so far have properly got me excited.
With Boltgun coming soon and Space Marine II following not far behind, it seems like a good time to be an Ultramarine!
Are you going to be trying this?

It’s on my radar. I hope it gets ported over to GOG.
I really, really, REALLY hope this is a good game, I want to play it so badly, as a fan of the OG Doom.
ACG did a preview review on it and it sounds promising https://youtu.be/khCjiowUsRY
What’s the bet’s half of the complaints are about this is another ultra Smurf game!?
Nice one.
Saw the trailer yesterday and thought it was awful, I guess you really have to be after nostalgia for this to work.
That could be interesting.
