Discover Games Workshop’s Video Game History on YouTube!
July 31, 2014 by dracs
Eagle eyed Lloyd has spotted a very interesting video on YouTube today as the channel CVG bring us a look at the complete video game history of Games Workshop.
The video tracks the complete history of game titles that have been published based around the myriad of Games Workshop titles, starting with the 1991 adaptation of HeroQuest, right up to upcoming titles, such as Warhammer 40k Space Wolf and Mordheim: City of the Damned.
Practically every table top gaming enthusiast has played one of the games on this list at some point. For most of us, it might be the excellent Dawn of War series. Personally, I grew teary eyed with pure nostalgia as my own first Warhammer video game showed up; Warhammer: Dark Omens.
More modern games also make an appearance, such as Space Marine and the arcade shooter Kill Team, which some of you may remember Justin and I played on Turn 8 when it first came out.
All in all, Warhammer video games have risen and fallen over the years, with some fondly remembered even today, and others not so much. We all have our favourites and it is really interesting to see how they have changed over the years. The list of unreleased titles at the end has me particularly excited for what will come next.
Which of these games was your first? What one is your favourite?

Final Liberation was great would still play the 2 player now.
Some good some bad… Future is bright though!
I still have my copies of Shadow of the Horned Rat and Final Liberation.
Final Liberation is still the best simulation of the actual tabletop game thats been made.
The problem with Final Liberation is that it was way too easy
Chaos Gate was pretty good.
played most of the games, DOW was by far the best to play
Got or played most of the games their liked most of them a lot of people slated fire warrior I had the PS2 version with a working gun site unlike PC version.
Absolutely loved Chaos Gate. However, it seems it would take nothing less than the combined efforts of the ghosts of Steve Jobs and Alan Turing to get the damned thing to work on a modern PC.. 🙂
LOL at the Reaver Titan walking animation for Horus Heresy Drop Assault.
I’ll take Final Liberation any day, what a classic game and very enjoyable even in a tow-player hot seat mode Orks vs Imperium.
It looks like Horus Heresy Drop Assault is going to be a “click-drag selection square-attack” type of game, where you just watch units clump together and attack… like Dune 2000 or Metal Marines.
Massive fan of Final Liberation and Rites of War. Was even playing Rites of War not so long ago through a WIN95 emulator…moving around the map was a bit iffy though.
i smell lawyers…
I remember on my old laptop back in the day i couldn’t play Final Liberation for more than an hour or the game would crash because the disc was overheating in the cd dive. I don’t understand why the most recent Space Hulk would’ve got bad reviews, it’s just a digital version of the board game. Sure it’s not amazing or anything, but it does exactly what it set out to do and looks pretty doing it. As for the news of an Eisenhorn:Xenos game coming in the future – colour me VERY intruiged. Everything that makes Mass Effect work… Read more »
Very funny at the end: “Please let us know how long you spent painting the miniatures.”
A long time, Mate. A very long time.
A few CVG missed: Dawn of War: Soulstorm (2008), Dungeonbowl (2012), Talisman (2014), and Chainsaw Warrior (2013).
Mark of Chaos anyone?
