Deathwatch: Overkill Coming This Weekend To Warhammer 40,000
February 25, 2016 by brennon
We talked about some of the leaks that came out surrounding Deathwatch: Overkill last weekend but now it seems like everything has come out about this new board game from Games Workshop. See what you think of some of the leaks HERE which show off both the Deathwatch Space Marines and Genestealer Cults...
The set seems like it's going to set you back around £100 and focuses on a scuffle between the Deathwatch and this ravening Genestealer Cult on tiles similar in design to those you would have seen in the Betrayal At Calth board game too. It would appear that the system is similar too with more in keeping with the Assassin game.

I… actually like the sound of this, damnit.
sounds interesting, the minis look very cool
These might be the best minis GW have done since switching to plastic. Some of the poses even look dynamic! I probably won’t get it, for several reasons, but mainly because I wouldn’t the use minis for anything other than the boxed game, and unless they’ve radically changed their approach to games design, then the game won’t be good enough to compete for table time. If I was a 40K player, though, I’d be all over this.
If I get it it will because I am splitting with someone who wants the marines. I would like the cult to expand my genestealer cult of a 28 mm inquisitor campaign I am working on.
Looks awesome, but I’ve got too many other things I’m doing to afford the £100 rumoured price tag… Maybe a xmas present?
It is £100 according to the leaked WD pics floating about, no rumor there
The question here is: Is it a limited run or a supported game?
Even so buy it from a independent and it will be £90 before any further discounts
and for 50 odd mini’s that works out at £1.80 a mini….
I wondered that myself so took a look at the webstore which is still selling Assassinorum and Calth, which is a good sign that even if it’s limited run it should be available for a while. I wouldn’t think it’s intended to be a game that receives ongoing support, as that isn’t GW’s style anymore with big box games. If it flies off the shelves and people are keep playing it then there’s no reason they couldn’t revisit it.
@redben Yeah i can see a lot of people going mad for this one as the deathwatch mini’s have pretty much something for everyone in there much like the new spacehulk terminators do as well, i.e. will be sick to death of seeing a million and one conversions and kit bashes in a years time 😉 never mind the surprisingly good genestealer cult mini’s makes me tempted to rebuild my old genestealer cult army (why my 15yold self thought it was a good idea to flog that many classic mini’s i dont know, all i know is that i wish… Read more »
It seems like someone new is in charge of GW, because they seem to have made a bunch of really good decisions. From the starter packs that are going to find their way into non-GW shops, the start collecting boxes which seem to be really good deals, especially if you go to online retailers when you get an extra 10% off. And now we have the HH game, and now this, which while they ask for a fair bit of money, you actually get a tonne of stuff in the box. Honestly, looking at the contents of these boxes, it… Read more »
Wow, this takes me back to my first ever White Dwarf!
Same here. Seeing and copying the image of a genestealer started something that has been in my life forever more. Dave Gallagher has a lot to answer for… now back to feeling old.
Wait a second… contact with a Genestealer changed you fundamentally you say?
OK… time to back away slowly and immediately summon the Inquisition. 😉
Astonishingly good miniatures!
I doubt the actual game will be any good given their recent performances, but you never know.
Why? Betrayal at Calth is a pretty fun game and has some interesting features.
*excluding Betrayal at Calth which I must admit I forgot about
I haven’t played it yet but my brother enjoyed execution force as well.
Finally some good replacements for my old 1st Ed hybrids!
That bundle looks very enticing…
As i understand it its a bit like the old assault on the citadel with one overlord player vs several marine players .. also the stealers look rly good so will be getting it if i can find it discounted
That does look rather tempting.
Will definitely pick up some of those cultists. Awesome stuff.
Finally! Now we just need a limousine…
Awesome!
I was thinking of reviving my genestealer cult after seeing the Wargames Exclusive cars
http://wargameexclusive.com/shop/imperial-soldiers/imperial-cars-big-pack-28-mm/
Those are some funky looking cars
every time i see those 40k cars i hear the Munsters music in my head…
only one issue-
-there are no Scythes of the Emperor in the Deathwatch team 🙁
I myself cant wait! i must admit i had hoped they’d release killteam as a standalone game, with all those rumours of a new branch or whatnot a while back, but that said no reason why they still cant do that in future, after building a new following with this.
The models for this look great, and what little I have seen of the Overkill game itself seems like it will be fun. The 40K rules from the White Dwarf look like they might be a little basic, but should serve well enough as a stop gap measure, and with any luck we will see both the Deathwatch and the Broodkin worked up into factions optimized for alliances similar to the Harlequins or Skitarri/Cult Mechanicus in the near future. Imagine an Imperial Army from any of the existing factions working alongside a Deathwatch Killteam rocking esoteric Ordo Xenos weaponry, or… Read more »
I’m not playing 40k anymore but this will be mine!
i’ve played deathwatch as an rpg and i like those minis!^^
also Tyranids was my army!^^
Gotta say I really do like the figures!
Not so much the price tag..and I think I’ll spend my hobby funds differently this time.
But if it’s sill around in a few months and I’ve got the spare cash… 😎
Should be painting all my Sons of Horus first tho 😉
the figures look brilliant with a lot packed on the sprue’s even a bike.
Already thinking about conversions – wonder if I could give an additional heavy something like a rivet-gun = autocannon
the old Space Hulk hybrids had a beamer, missile launcher and autocannon
This does look nice 😀 . I have always picked lists / mini’s by the rule of cool, but the white scar on the bike that will be driving around a mine in the game gave me a smile a mile wide 😀 😀 .
The hybrid, stealers and patriarch look great. The hybrids are great updates on the old mini’s that this old gamer remembers from yesteryear with very fond memories.
I like the genestealer models, as models. Space marines… not so much. At any rate, too rich for my blood.
