Dawn of War III is really shaping up to be quite the epic return for this franchise from Relic and SEGA. Picking up with Gabriel Angelos and his Blood Ravens once more the Space Marines will be facing off against the Eldar and the Orks in one of the craziest looking games to date.

Space Marines

Using a lot of what made Dawn Of War great they have returned to a more standard RTS feel, embracing the quicker feel of games like StarCraft as well. That doesn't mean the heroes and special units are gone from the likes of Dawn Of War II however...and it looks like they've mixed together the best of the best.

Factions

The factions, as mentioned above break down into the Space Marines led by Gabriel Angelos, the Eldar by Farseer Magha and the Orks of Gorgutz 'Ead'unter. Each of them is looking to claim the Spear Of Khaine.

IGN put together a great video above showing off some of the neat abilities and character options open to the different factions. Personally, I'm loving the look of the Imperial Knight for the Space Marines. So much death and destruction!

Environments

Another thing that has been focused in on, this time from Gametrailers, is the types of environments you'll be playing through in the games single player and multiplayer modes. The design is fantastic and could be one of those things where we look to create tabletops based on the environments from the game.

Eldar

Imagine creating the ice/lava world of Acheron or the Starforts of the Imperials on the tabletop? You'd have some brilliant worlds to fight over with loads of fascinating uses for environmental rules like we talked about on a past Weekender episode.

It's nice to see game developers using the space on the map to not only show off the units but also tell a bit of a story; it's pretty much what we do when it comes to building a table to play our games on for the tabletop.

Multiplayer Action

The games always had a solid singleplayer mode but the multiplayer is where this game really came into its own on occasion. Once again IGN collected together some great footage of how the game plays. The fast and frenetic pace of the game this time around combined with the massive amount of action and wild effects going off from all sides means not only is this going to tax your PC, but it's going to also be quite the feast for the eyes.

Orks

Interestingly, the multiplayer, and the game in general, actually bought a lot of people to the tabletop from the digital realm. Seeing the forces battle it out on the screen made them not only want to create armies based on the characters but also try out this strange hobby we love so much.

It would be cool to find out if any of you were drawn into Warhammer 40,000 due to the Dawn Of War games. If you were, let us know below and tell us what armies you collected after being inspired!

Will you be playing when the game releases April 27th, 2017?
