Dangerous Dark Angels & Pious Battle Sisters Appearing Soon
January 13, 2020 by brennon
Games Workshop has been showing off some new Warhammer 40,000 releases which are going to be available to pre-order this weekend. Leading the way we've got a selection of new Adepta Sororitas releases which will help those build up a larger pious force, ready to bring low cultists and xenos alike.

Here we have the Penitent Engines which have been armed with all sorts of brutal looking weapons and prisoners, lashed to its frame. The set comes with the ability to build two walkers so you could either work on these familiar options or perhaps the new Mortifier which is piloted by the Sister Repentia who have committed the ultimate sin, turning from the light of The Emperor.
Finally, you can also build the Anchorite which is piloted by a Sister who has not 'sinned' so much as betrayed the Adepta Sororitas instead. They are encased within a sarcophagus much like with the Dreadnoughts of the Space Marines and are forever isolated from their peers. Forever entombed, this is a brutal kind of penance.
Wild Killers
As well as the punishment available through the Penitent Engines, there is also the option of being turned into an Arco-Flagellant. These soldiers turned into unthinking killers, are a another brutal tool in the arsenal of the Emperor's pious children.
We talked about this unit last week which is looking very cool indeed. Armed with all manner of odd weapons lashed to their bodies they are given one goal. Kill. You might remember one particular character amongst them from Inquisitor, Damian 1427.
The model is looking rather cool indeed and very much updates his look. That game did show us that these brutal killers can be heeled but they are simply now a vessel for carnage. I do like the idea of someone throwing these into the mix during games of Necromunda. Maybe you could have a few Arco-Flagellants sent out as assassins to kill a particular gang leader and you've got to try and stop these mad killers from reaching them!
A Tune Of Destruction
Following on from these units there is also a vehicle in the mix. The Exorcist is rolling into the mix with its rather fascinating appearance. If you ever wanted to take playing music to eleven in style then this would be the way to do it.
I genuinely think that if you could find a way to include a little speaker in the mix here, playing classical music as it fires, you'd get all kinds of kudos. It is a rather fascinating model and I think it really shows off what the Adepta Sororitas can do.
If you're going to make an army which is focused on piety and zealous fury then making sure they have an organ on tracks seems like a good way to start. I also really like that epic helmet that you can see in the middle there and I would love to see that taken and applied to a character to lead your army. I think it would look great, especially on a sword-wielding Cannoness.
Healers & Saints
Keeping with the Adepta Sororitas themselves we also have a couple of new characters for you to consider. If you need a healer to watch over your Sisters as they take on daemons and more then that is where the Hospitaller comes in.
I do like the model, healing a fallen Sister as the battle rages around her. This is a moment caught in plastic and would make a pretty good diorama/vignette as well as being useful on the tabletop. I think if I were to pick a head choice for this miniature, I'd prefer to use the masked one as it gives the model a bit more of a battlefield look.
There is also the rather mighty Canoness Superior Of The Order Of Our Martyred Lady Judith Eruita. If you're looking for the ultimate battle pulpit then this is what you need to add into your collection.
So yes, if you want to get an idea of exactly how off-the-wall the world of Warhammer 40,000 is then this is a pretty good guideline. Again, much like with the Exorcist, this is a good way to show off just how wild and different the Adepta Sororitas are compared to the rest of the Imperium. I think it's neat!
Ritual Of The Damned
As well as the Adepta Sororitas there is also the release of the next book in the Psychic Awakening saga. The Ritual Of The Damned awaits as the Dark Angels and Grey Knights seek to undo the plans of the Thousand Sons and their leader, Magnus The Red.
The cover character for this particular part of the story is the mighty Master Lazarus who has crossed the Rubicon Primaris in order to enact his revenge against the Thousand Sons who wracked his body and mind with powerful psychic energies. He comes with his mighty blade, Eternity's Edge which seeks the blood of psykers as much as he does.
This kit can also be assembled in a different way, allowing you to build a Primaris Master, either helmeted or unhelmeted and with power fist at his side.
So, if you don't fancy being quite as zealous as Master Lazarus you can always dive in and throw this particular model into the mix instead. It might work for a Dark Angel force that you want to fight with away from the happenings of the Psychic Awakening.
There is quite a lot for you to get stuck into when it comes to Warhammer 40,000 at the moment so let us know your thoughts!

A Sisters article maybe isn’t the place to complain about waiting for models but still no Lion. Come on GW!
We’ve got what may be an Imperial Civil War coming up, so I’d give it just a little bit longer. Where we are in the 40K narrative, it’s definitely not a matter of “if” but “when.”
It’ll be nothing to what the Sisters fans have waited (though 10k years in fluff terms).
Good point.
Really must paint my Dark Angels sometime. I need another Chaos army!

Looking very nice! I’m glad we have a name for the new Penitent Engine variants, that was bugging me in the last post. I do wonder what a Sororitas Dreadnought will be like, and how she’ll play. The Exorcist is a nice update to the classic model, though the second head variant seems a little bit ridiculous. I confess I could accept the stained-glass cockpit on the Immolator, but a stained-glass visor seems to be stretching it a bit. Overall, looking great, and I like seeing this range shaping up.
Looking forward to Ritual of the Damned but I think Psychic Awakening really needs a lift. So far the books have been good but haven’t had the impact that the build-up promised.
They botched the Phoenix Awakening one. 2 units in plastic for the first time and two heroes updates from their 2nd edition and 3rd edition models and only available in an army boxes set. Yet here we have Marine (and other) heroes being made available separately. I’m not sure I understand why this went wrong. I wasn’t tremendously impressed with the lore either in Phoenix Rising. A fair bit of it was recycled from the Ynari background stuff and the less said about the showdown between the 2 Eldar heroes the better. I’d also question the power creep going on… Read more »
Some great models.
