Face Daemonic Threats In Warhammer 40K’s Hexfire Battlebox
July 27, 2021 by brennon
A new preview popped up this week which lets us look at more of the unfolding story within Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000. This time around, the focus is on the forces of the Grey Knights and The Thousand Sons as part of the Hexfire Battlebox.

This new set sees a new miniature for Castellan Crowe taking on the Infernal Master, Xentep Korazon, on the world of Hexenfast. The set includes a brand new campaign book which details a battle between the two forces around the gas giant. The Thousand Sons are opening warp fissures and bringing daemonic creatures into being whilst the Grey Knights are seeking to combat their schemes.
As well as the campaign, you'll also find the Crusade rules for playing it out plus specific Battle Scars, Relics and Battle Traits. I do like the idea of following a specific storyline through a campaign with two defined forces. The narrative side of things always works as a big draw for me.
Hexfire Battlebox Miniatures
You'll need two armies in order to play out the campaign for Hexenfast. Leading the way are two new miniatures for Castellan Crowe and Xentep Korazon.

I'm still not overly sold on the aesthetic for The Thousand Sons but I really like the updated version of Castellan Crow. He has been bulked up a lot to bring him in line with Primaris forces and also feels a lot more dynamic too. I like the trailing daemonic energy drifting from the sword as it gets swung in a wide arch.
Each of the characters is then supported by a small army. The Grey Knights get two five-man squads of Grey Knights that can be assembled as Purifiers, a Strike Squad, an Interceptor Squad of a deadly Purgation Squad.

You also get the towering Nemesis Dreadknight doing its best to carry its little baby Grey Knight into battle. If you're looking to get started in Warhammer 40,000 then a faction like the Grey Knights might not be a bad shout. They are elite, you have a small number of miniatures to paint and should be fairly easy to get ready for the tabletop! Their rules might be a bit more complicated though.
On the other side of things, you also have The Thousand Sons.
Thousand Sons // Warhammer 40,000
This set comes with the aforementioned Infernal Master, five Scarab Occult Terminators, ten Tzaangors and a Tzaangor Shaman. This becomes a mixture of heavy firepower and plenty of psychic energy. Effectively, this force is looking to undo reality and send Grey Knights spiralling into nothingness with their sorcerous powers.
A pretty perfect match-up. Sorcerous power versus those best equipped to deal with the threat. I reckon this could be an interesting campaign to fight out.
New Warhammer 40,000 Codexes
In addition to the Battlebox, you will also be able to pick up the new Codexes for both of these factions. Grey Knights and Thousand Sons will get new books featuring all of the updates for the new edition.

There is no date on when exactly this is all going to become available but I would imagine it will drop in the next few weeks. We've got the new Kill Team on the horizon and I would assume that this set will follow in its wake.

Ido like the new models but I’m not so sure about the box, it seems quite ubalanced and why are there no Rubric Marines for the Thousand Sons and no Terminators for the Grey Knights?
I also really hoped the Thousand Sons would get more new stuff liek the Death Guard.
“Hexfire”
Sorry, that sound so uninspiring…
Demons and hunters.
I am happy to see they included Scarab Occult Terminators in the box but I would rather they had swapped over the Tzaangors with Rubric Marines. Tzaangors are little more than chaff against the grey knights it is not balanced at all.
It included a 40 page campaign book which is slight more interesting than the normal offer. Depending on the price of the boxset the additional book might seal the deal.
It would have been good to see updated grey knights. You can really see the disparity between the old and new kits now.
Really Looking forward to this boxed set!
I was hoping for a new unit type for the Grey Knights and a squad of Rubric Marines (to be used for Kill Team). Now all I want is Crowe and the GK codex. Kind of a disappointment, imo. It does seem a little unbalanced, not sure which way it leans though.
It’s curious that the Grey Knights aren’t Primaris. (That is correct isn’t it, that the Grey Knights aren’t Primaris, nor Primaris size?)
A rather lazy and uninspired box. Nice cover art though.
Sad to say that the Grey Knights are really starting to show their age, and they opted to put a Dreadknight into the box instead of a unit of much better Grey Knight Terminators. This does feel a bit boring and another case of “GW putting together a quick box set to push some new character models,” even if it’s nice to see the Thousand Sons getting more love.
Ah so those two models were for this boxed set. While that boxed set doesn’t look anything special over all it’s not bad looking boxed set.
With a new codex and box set I thought for sure there would be new models for the rank and file. They are showing their age when they are next to each other. Little disappointed in this, but at least there are SOME new models, and a couple of direly needed codices. Even if the troops look nothing like the box or cover art…
