Da 40k Ork Codex Iz On Da Horizon Boyz! Go Getz It!
June 21, 2014 by brennon
Games Workshop have finally decreed it time for the Ork Codex for Warhammer 40,000 to actually hit the pre-order list alongside a pair of faces that we know well from the leaks we saw earlier in the week. See what you think...
First up we have the codices themselves which will get you gaming in the world of Warhammer 40,o00 with the Ork horde. You have the standard one, of course, but you also have a massive limited edition version which comes with a whole host of goodies including a Codex Supplement for Waaaagh! Ghazghull! So, you should be leading that mighty warband into battle with this too!
As well as the codices you also have access to both the Painboy and the Mek for the HQ choices in your new greenskin tide of awesomeness. The Painboy still hasn't won me over as a model and the Mek is still more in my wheelhouse. I think it's that annoying little grot on the top and the strange face he's pulling that annoys me while I'm checking him out. A lot of you made counterpoints and I can see why he might be like this but I just can't get past the expression.
Will you be starting an Ork horde?

I prefer the pain boy, looks to have a bit more character to him, I imagine his expression has something to do with whatever rudimentary pain relief he’s using to cope with his implants. I’ll grant you that the grots mouth looks a little too teethy, and I never like sculpted droplets like the one running down the needle, but he still gets a thumbs up from me.
I’m just waiting for them to add the red noses, big clown shoes and water squirting flowers!
Not to my taste at all!
So glad I kicked the GW habit years ago.
GW’s orks are not to my taste either. The idea is a good one. A horde of psychotic killers, engineered to be mindless killers and now let loose on the galaxy because the race with created them is long gone … they could have been incredible, truly terrifying and very cool.
Instead, they are ridiculous, cartoon monsters which the vocabulary of a four year old. I’m actually finding that this big ork release is turning me off 40k and making me seriously think about whether I want to play it.
I like it that the Orc lovers get some love..:)
But man, do I hate the infantile speak Orc players use.
Waaaaa…blam!… Take that!
Pain Boy has some character but is a little too sinister for 40K Orks :s Not sure about the Mekboy, could be the painting, but he is so bloody CADish and characterless. Reminds me of those new turd Ogryns actually. And for Zeus’ sake GW, as offensive as it is to be releasing these mono-pose plastic CAD creations with no freedom or options that is usually associated with using plastic – something GW have proven to be kings at doing – then why only release a single model of each HQ? All other companies manage to make multiple metal/resin character… Read more »
I’ve seen pics of the plastic mega nobz (stupid they haven’t been released yet IMHO) and I agree with the apparent lack of versatility with these clam packs – I’d rather have an HQ upgrade box with enough bits to use with the Nobz set tbh. I’m not a fan of CAD design on some minis – it’s almost too precise for its own good, but for vehicles and larger kits I think it’s great. It is a shame GW can’t see past their own product mantra – whatever terrible beast it takes the form of 🙂 You wait, those… Read more »
these ones are probably all still hand sculpted, made in 3 UP size I would guess 😛 GW still sculpt 90% of thier minis with green stuff, the 3D renders in the instructions are just renders from solidworks or freeform, they just scan them in, and then cut them up into the components 😉 … despite the tools they have, GW is still very anti-progress in that department, digital sculpting’s still like witchcraft to them 😛 ha ha like cavemen looking at fire, they think it looks pretty, but they’re scared it’ll burn them 😛 normally it’s just used to… Read more »
and also.. I note the Ork Battleforce seems to have vanished unless mistaken.
And i see no replacement i.e an Ork army box set with savings attached. Only those mental-reject one-click-collections.
Yeah, they’ll wait a couple more weeks until it arrives (to squeeze more sales) – I just hope it’s a sane bundle as I’m waiting to see what they come up with. If it’s not my cup of cha I’ll go ebay all the way 🙂
Yeah, ebay is the way to go with a lot of GW stuff now. So much cheaper than going to the horse’s mouth (so to speak.) A lot of their older stuff is so much nicer too.
The paint job on that pain boy is just brilliant. Can we find out who painted that?
yep, syringes are especially impressive !
I much prefer the dark and gritty aspect of the Orks rather than the bright colours. Things like the Goffs rather than the Evil Sunz and alike.
Can’t knock the paint jobs and its nice to see them trying to add the character to them even if some of the latest bits haven’t been to my tastes. A lot of that is probably the paint scheme.
Apparently the Painboy grot has had his mouth sewn up, hence the “grin”, doesn’t work for me!
I thought those stitches were his teeth! It’s a funny idea, but your right they haven’t pulled it off.
the Mekboy looks ok, but the Painboy is just too weird for my taste (@ ,o)
… although maybe a head swap and a bit of extra green stuff work could make it look better 🙂
it’s a shame really because the Big Mek the just released
with the shokk attack gun looks amazing, getting one of them myself 🙂
Personally I am looking forward to this release and the datacards set too. new models are fine really but expensive so I will pick and choose very carefully -…
I think the pain boy looks great, the extended upper lip is very old school – if you think the face is weird google image “Paul Bonner orks” and get ready for some awesome!
The paint job is insane – there are tiny bubbles painted in those syringes…
