Three Classic Warhammer Games Now On GoG.Com
July 16, 2015 by brennon
GoG.Com have added three ultra-classic Games Workshop Warhammer titles to their webstore. In an age of the license getting handed off to anyone and everyone this might get you hit you in the nostalgia and have you yearning for the old days even more.
Shadow of the Horned Rat
The first game in the collection is Shadow of the Horned Rat which had you fighting against the deadly forces of the Skaven with your mercenaries led by Bernhardt. Thanquol himself is present in this game which is pretty awesome.
One of the cool things about the game is that you could either work to uncover the Skaven and Orc plot or just continue fighting for your paymaster as the Old World burned around you. Since this is one of the only interpretations of the Warhammer world in the digital realm it would be ace to see Mark of Chaos come back too at some point.
Final Liberation
Now we're onto Warhammer 40,000. Here in Final Liberation we have the coming of Epic to the digital side of things. This game had you playing as the Imperial army trying to hold out against an Orc invasion.
As you can see, yes it did involve Titans. The game was a turn based strategy experience and it even had some cool FMV cutscenes which are legendary now. You can find them on Youtube if you take a quick look.
Chaos Gate
Last but not least is Chaos Gate which sees Ultramarines facing off against Chaos Space Marines. The game focused on turn based strategy once again but also had RPG elements in there too.
These games were well loved back in the day and it's good to see that GoG are bringing things back to the forefront. I think there are going to be a lot of classic Warhammer fans lapping these up now they've been worked out to work on modern machines.
Check them out!

I take it they made them dx11 compatible now? Chaos gate and final liberation are auto buys if so .. shadow of the horned rat for its movies 🙂
It should all run on modern machines (they test them all) via DosBox so if there are problems they tend to be quick on fixing them too.
BoW Ben
Chaos gate was awesome!
IS awesome.
I hope you meant chaos gate is awesome and not the radical group! 😉
Heh, totally meant Chaos Gate. You can call of the drone strike.
In many ways Chaos Gate still is the pinnacle of WH40K games to me. It is one of those games that you really grow attached to your troops and every loss hurts.
Always liked Horned Rat. Maybe my machine is powerful enough to run it now
I likes Epic . it was just too easy
Absolutely loved these games back in the day and still have them all on disc. SotHR is one of the reasons I still maintain a backwards compatible PS3. If Rites of War and Dark Omen could get the same treatment I’d be one very happy gamer!
aaaand I bought them. again.
These are all awesome! Played them a ton as a kid off of an old pc collection. Shadow of the Horned rat is still one of the funnest rts games out there, chaos gate is the closest still to turn based table top, and final liberation was what got me into epic. Also see Final Liberation for some great live action cut scenes.
This is awesome news. Finally I’ll be able to play final liberation and chaos gate on a modern device. Time to start spending.
Dark Omen is still my all time favorite. Yes, even over Dawn of War games,
Shadow of the Horned Rat, that’s nostalgia. Great game!!
I loved Final Liberation, and will almost certainly be buying it.
“We will kill lot of humies. There will be WAR!”
All I can remember from Chaos gate is
” Join us… Come to Chaos” Ad infinitum
Fantastic. I used to get up at 5am every morning before school to play Shadow of the Horned Rat. Completed all 3 of these titles. Hopefully Dark Omen will get a re make too.
the only one I never played/ have was eldar’s rites of war loved them all.
omg CHAOS GATE !!!!
Nostalgia overload for all these games!!
Really great memories playing final liberation with my cousin who introduced me to wargaming, must have been 10-11 at the time.
Buying all of these and making time to play at least a few missions.
Good find, Thank you
All three of these were fantastic – I’ll definitely be picking these up!
I still play Dark Omen on this laptop, it took a while to figure out how to get it working, I think I had to install a patch or special file or something.
Still haven’t completed it though!
Awesome games
Reading the comments on the GoG page though a lot of people seem to be having issues with Chaos Gate 🙁
