Head To Chalnath With New 40K Kill Team Boxed Set This Weekend
October 25, 2021 by brennon
Games Workshop are heading to Chalnath this weekend with a new Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team expansion that sees the Adepta Sororitas going up against the T'au Empire.
Kill Team: Chalnath // Warhammer 40,000
Shop Kill Team @ Store.OnTableTop
The Vedik System becomes the focus of running battles between the Adepta Sororitas and the T'au Empire in Kill Team: Chalnath. Looking to prove themselves, the Novitiates have been sent by their Battle Sisters to uncover the plots and schemes of the T'au and root them out amongst some Imperial Ruins.
Adepta Sororitas Novitiates // Kill Team
I have quite liked everything that we've got for the Adepta Sororitas during their plastic relaunch and these certainly continue that trend. I like the "battle nun" design that is brought to the fore even more here with these initiates. There appear to be a fair few options in the set which allow you to make some unique Battle Sisters too.
Set against them is a new set of T'au Pathfinders who have got themselves some seriously upgraded technology.
T'au Pathfinder Squad // Kill Team
You get a team of ten miniatures plus the drones which will be watching their back. If you're looking to play as a Kill Team which feels more cutting edge then this seems like a good shout. I have always liked the idea of the T'au and I collected them for a good few years. There is still something super cool about their helmets!
This new Kill Team box comes with a double-sided game board, terrain and a rules manual detailing all of the new lore and rules that you'll need for using them on the tabletop. If you weren't fussed by the Death Korp Of Krieg and Ork Kommandos then maybe this will draw you into Kill Team?
Warhammer Day
As well as the release of Kill Team: Chalnath, this Saturday also marks Warhammer Day. The folks at Games Workshop will be celebrating the hobby online and hope you'll join them in stores too.
Primaris Lieutenant With Storm Shield // Warhammer 40,000
The Primaris Lieutenant With Storm Shield will be available from Games Workshop's webstore whilst Vampire Lord Anasta Malkorion will be available online and in your local store. So, there is something for those who love the grimdark future and the Mortal Realms.
Vampire Lord Anasta Malkorion // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar
As well as some special miniatures to mark the occasion, Games Workshop will also be hosting a Warhammer Preview too. This will give a glimpse into the future and let us know what's around the corner for a variety of their games.
Are you tempted by Kill Team: Chalnath and what would you like to see them preview this weekend during the celebrations?

As a member of the Anti-Shinny League, I’m trying to resist the Tau Pathfinders and the book. The rest I can do without…. I can really can do without the book as I have the White Dwarf with a Tau Pathfinder Kill Team in it…
And the Pathfinders will be released as a separate box at some point…Still waiting on those Krieg Veterans from the first box in this new iteration of Kill Team.
Yup – if it’s anything like the previous box the miniatures and rules should be available separately in a month or so. Easier than stumping up the cash now for this!
I feel G’Wullu missed an opportunity here to put some different terrain in the box. There is ample “gothic scifi” and enough “orcs” terrain. But real “beat up” Tau terrain would be a nice change of pace and maybe a higher incentive to buy for Tau players.
That would mean a new set of die-molds an I don’t think that’s on their to do list.
they did a new set of die-molds for both killteams in their previous release …
And I think these teams are brand spanking new as well.
(and they still haven’t done anything for those poor Eldar)
Would be good to get more T’au (just realised I’ve been misspelling it) terrain.
I think the issue would be that T’au terrain wouldn’t fit the plot of the expansion – the Sisters retaking worlds off the T’au, who wouldn’t have had time to build much.
Not sure that any recent 40K plot progression has involved a world that the T’au has been on for any length of time.
The terrain would be great for making a damaged imperial religious building especially when added to the large doors they have.
They already had the Battle Sanctum, which came out around about the time the Sisters did, I seem to remember.
Not sure that is new terrain is this box, but hasn’t been in production for a while if it isn’t.
yes they have a smaller set just walls an corners the two large ends are new but the large doors are stopped? https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Sector-Imperialis-Ruins-2018
Update They have stopped doing the large imperial doors ?
The terrain in the Chalnath box is the exact same that came with the KT ’18 core set.
Interesting looking boxed set.
Are these sets enough to play the game? I think the answer is no but am I wrong?
Partner’s littlun is taking an interest so I’m thinking this is an achievable way to get him in. Perhaps not the whippy space nuns ? but maybe the next box
Well I think no one can say at the moment if the box is enoughbut I think this is an expansion box lacking the rulebook.
If these models are enough I can’t say. The Sororitas models are new so I can’t say anything about it and the T’au Pathfinders are not enough for a Killteam force but they might get new rules in this which might make them enough to play Killteam.
Cheers. It’s a bit of a shame re the Tau as I think they’re the stronger set of models (well the one I find appealing – bdsm religious nutter not really being my cup of tea).
I may grab Octarius if the price for this isn’t much less, or wait for the next “versus” box. The speed I paint at it won’t make much difference ?
I think GW are doing a ‘cheap’ version of the Octarius box as the new killteam starter set.
And they should be releasing all teams on their own eventually as well.
(I could tell you to get Deathzone instead … but there’s no denying that GW’s kits have proper build instructions, which is really useful to beginners)
Yes, the models one receives in the Chalnath box provide for two complete kill teams. So far the KT’21 releases have, unlike the prior edition, been completely playable teams that allow for some customization.
Anyone had a sniff on what the price on this would be? I’m guessing less than the £125 than the core box as there is less going on it but can’t think of point of reference for what it would be.
Trying to decide if it’s worth getting up to see about ordering or just pick up the pieces.
The Octarius (not Atrocious, autocorrect -everyone’s a critic) seems to still be available. Maybe the FOMO is unjustified.
This box really steps up and show cases the biggest problem with 40k, in my opinion. The lack of one side using even limited common sense when engaging the enemy. I mean look at the tau. They look like a military force ready to engage the enemy. ANY ENEMY. Tactical equipment deployed for gathering information, support fire from drones, the entire team has ranged weapons as primary, and lastly they are all equipped with body armor!! The sisters of battle look like a bunch of cosplayers. I mean dont get me wrong, I get it. Its 40k. Its fluffy, I… Read more »
Particularly since these Pathfinders, who already had a sorta ‘special forces’ vibe going on are supposed to be particularly elite and have access to toys Pathfinders normally wouldn’t, while the Sisters are trainees without power armor and who seem to be predominantly armed with autoguns and some melee weapons, worse than even the typical guardsmen get with their armament of lasguns. Sort of loadout I’d expect to see of cultists or hive gangers. Seems like the Tau have an advantage in firepower, veterancy, numbers and tactics. Seems like quite the mismatch to me. I wonder how they could be expected… Read more »
At least the Sisters look nicer than most of their rebooted range (i.e. their leader doesn’t look like Samuel L. Jackson in a dress). The Tau are a nice improved design as well and the helmetless heads lend them a lot more character than they typically have, which is a feature that could benefit some of the other Tau grunt sets. I do echo the sentiment of some of the other users on here that some ramshackle or at least shot-up Tau terrain would lend a lot of life to the set, even something that built onto the Tidewall kits,… Read more »
But as Gerry noted during a previous weekender, some of those Tau heads now feature “noses”. Not sure what this means, are Tau going to have “smell enemy” as a new points upgrade option on the army list?
Nothing says “Special ops” and “stealth” like bringing the Holy Grail and a big shiny standard ….
Sorry GW.
Why are you trying to convince me that space nuns make a good killteam ?
