Canoness Veridyan Coming To The Tabletop For Warhammer 40,000
December 7, 2016 by brennon
The Adepta Sororitas are heading back to the tabletop as part of the Codex: Imperial Agents book which is going to collect together lots of existing rules into one place. Leading the way will be Canoness Veridyan based on some familiar Warhammer 40,000 artwork...
Now that is one awesome looking model and already makes me wish that plastic Sisters of Battle would become a reality. The model is based on this original artwork by John Blanche.
This model will be available this weekend alongside some new additions to the Made To Order list including metal Sisters Of Battle from Games Workshop. Maybe if they sell well enough they will actually get to sculpting up some female miniatures for us in awesome Gothic power armour.
Will you be looking to pick her up?

I guess your opinion on this model, depends on your opinion on John Blanche.
For what it’s worth, I was never really a fan of that artwork, but I guess SoB players have got to take what they can.
Hopefully any new SoB that do eventually come out, are not so Blanche-esque.
Oh, I’m not a fan of Blanche’s artwork but the model itself is a rare thumbs up from me considering it’s based on his work.
Usually, I find his stuff a bit too ‘odd’
I think for the most part his work is better off confined to the conceptual stage rather than used as artwork in a book (main exception is background books like Liber Chaotica where his style fits in), and generally when it is shown tends to be better off in black and white than in colour (but mostly because most of his work has a really limited colour palette of red, black and ochre).
That being said, power stilettos aside, the above picture is probably one of his better works.
Too right!
I actually like the weirdness of Blanche’s artwork.
This model is tempting. Both for the art reference and the somewhat old hammer vibe it has.
WOW U R DEAD 2 ME !!!
NEW UPDATED RULES for Sisters of Battle! Their new plastic set should be a sight to see.
As an FYI, they aren’t releasing any new models with this rulebook.

This book isn’t accompanying a new range of miniature, but we couldn’t let the release of a new book containing so many awesome sub-factions under the Imperial aegis pass without some sort of model to mark the occasion. So, our Studio Team set sculptor Martin Footit the task of creating an iconic miniature to accompany the book – and he didn’t disappoint.
those feet scream xenos to me, ugh.
I’m definitely a fan of Blanche’s work. I think the upper half of the mini does a really good job of capturing the art. The bottom half doesn’t work as well.
yeah. legs just a teeny bit longer, would have been great. still try and get myself one though…
I like Blanche’s work for a game like Mordheim, which was supposed to be “historical” Old World events. (Although now I guess it’s all “historical,” isn’t it?) His artwork seems to fit that theme, sort of like the drawings of a mostly insane old villager from the Empire who witnessed the lunacy of Chaos and the purges of the Witch Hunters, and he somehow survived but with very little of his sanity remaining.
This is why I don’t mind his work in background books/art books but generally dislike it in codices/army books and the like. His work fits the product of someone whose mind has been ravaged by the horrors of Chaos, but is overshadowed by more conventional illustrations and paintings that are the bulk of the artwork in a codex/army book.
Think some more John Blanche love is needed in this thread! I never used to be a fan. Back in the nineties, I used to love the Mark Gibbons artwork and be mainly confused by the John Blanche stuff. But then I had an epiphany when I saw his sketchbook in the flesh. This was at an open day several years back. The man himself was sitting two feet from me while I looked through, and a cabinet of his awesome miniatures was right next to him. That book was amazing – it felt like an actual artefact from the… Read more »
I really like John Blanche’s art and seeing one of his art become model is nice surprise. And top of that one that I will surely want.
As a model of a painting it’s quite good.
However those boots look ridiculous for someone who isn’t a model.
I think it could have used a few more skulls …
You know, like skulls with skulls having skulls or something.
looks like Cher in one of her awful outfits
Was it Blanche who did that Black Templars cover for the 3rd ed rulebook?
Worst foot on rock ever, especially given that she’s in heels. Just another stilted CGI offering… yawn.
Its not a rock! 😉
it may have been the ROCK?
Skull boob armour. Hmmm.
I like the figure not to keen on the pose.
As a fan of John Blanche myself, I actually like this little limited edition homage to him. And since it is only a limited release, i think it is a fantastic little nod to their past. However, I do agree, in comparison to especially their newer miniatures, this pose leaves a lot to be desired. But ill definately be picking one up for the history. Always liked this artwork on the sisters codex
YES… at last they have a model worth the picture,
The same as the picture, Games Work Shop. HOW many years……. yes Yes YES.
Lovely.
Lady Gaga in power amour! I like the model, and hope the awkwardness of the miniature is just due to the angle of the picture. Someone on another website mentioned Blanche can’t draw feet. I think this translates over to the miniature.
haven’t picked up a GW model in a while now, but I’ll be grabbing this. It matches an iconic bit of art that I, like others, tried to imitate back in 1997. I still have the base I made but the rest of the conversion sucked. It won’t make it to the table since my nuns with guns are Argent Shroud and I’ll be painting it to match Blanche’s Marmite artwork. Maybe a playable list will appear at some point in the future, and I know there’s a digital list but I’m a grumpy old man and if it’s not… Read more »
