A Canoness Leads The Way For 40K’s Adepta Sororitas
August 6, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has been previewing more from the growing Adepta Sororitas range which will (hopefully) be dropping into Warhammer 40,000 soon. Check out one of their leaders, the Canoness.
Whilst she might look matronly, these Battle Sisters are some of the most hardened warriors in the Imperium. Each bead you see worked into the reliquary link is a good deed done in the name of the Emperor so, as you can imagine, this Canoness is a dangerous and deadly warrior.
She is an inspiring leader and works as a battlefield commander as well as a front line fighter. You can't quite see it here in this image but she has even lost one of her legs, now replaced with a bionic one, showing that she is quite the veteran.
It would be rather cool to see another Canoness in a more battlefield ready stance, raising her sword to strike down her foes.
What do you think of the new sculpt preview?

this one actually looks like a combat nun
A bit static but not bad. Starting to go more ornate which isn’t great though, the nuns with guns had a clean simplicity to the design that I hope they don’t ruin with excessive crap hung off them
Utterly terrible. Compared to the older versions it is very bland and undynamic. It is also far too ornate for a SoB, but that is what they do with all the minis. Adding detail everywhere does not make a below-average model better.
Maybe this Sister is a fan of Liberace? The ‘bionic’ leg just looks silly.
Not too bad, but not too impressed with this one personally
For a character model, I don’t mind a bit of bling but social etiquette has really taken an unpleasant turn in the 41st millennium, ladies of her age should never have their legs spread that wide. Bionic leg or not, standing with your feet that far apart isn’t very practical or comfortable – give me a foot on rock any day of the week over starjump legs.
…been watching too many Whitesnake videos!
Besides of static pose that is looks really good.
I like the older looking face.
It is a nice touch, but Wacoshop need to get some real scultpers! Everything is just the same. I undersatnd you need things to look ‘uniform’ and that they are a religious order, but they just don’t get it. Take a look at the penitent SoB (I forget the name) that they have shown-off…they have shoes on.
They have taken the fantastic Sisters of Battle and added them to their line of toys.
I would like to draw your attention to the ‘full stop’ at the end of my short sentence and to the endless empty space immediately there after.
Why oh why do they have heels! I’ve always thought that was daft
the originals don’t, they have sensible sabatons for stamping heads of marines who get out of hand with
The models might not but the 2nd ed cover of the SoB codex had a canoness in full on fetish boots.
Yes, Canoness Veridyan by John Blanche that even got her own Limited Edition miniature some years ago.
yeah but that’s Blanche and he’s always been mental
Ah, the good-old days. They even had whips too.
There was a bit in one of the older books where a Sister and a Marine looked like they were going to “get it on”. They would need more than a bit of Mace!
…so they can perform a front-kick to the face! Have you ever had a lady stand on your hand while wearing Stillettos?
I’ve liked the other SOB previews, but the pose of this one seems odd. I think I prefer the old metal version to this.
the first canoness was amazing, the second was a bit static but alright, the face and skullcap on this I like, but the rest is meh, it’s a step back certainly
And now for the big gun’s? canon’s? Cannoness? more nun’s.
I do like the face. The power sword looks good. I like the idea of the staff of office as it can also be used as a power maul. The stance is poor at best and the gorges with the high cross at the back is not something any line officer would wear. Needing a Canoness in each formation means three to four of these on the table. We need at least 2 sculpts for this or make her a Canoness Superior and give us something less ostentatious as the standard Canoness. They were doing good with the troops but… Read more »
Again I’m not a fan of this range, they all seem very masculine in design and as for the face that is not a female at all. I don’t understand GWs designers, the St Celestine model and the 2 Geminae Superia along with Greyfax and the sisters of silence ranges are superb. These ranges really fit the lore that they are based on, these new SoB are let down.
Really digging this one. Of course there has to be an old nun to ride herd on the young nuns, it’s the law of the universe.
…I guess you have never been in a Convent before?
Couldn’t pin it down at first, but its the censer “baubles” and the icon belt that wrong. They are angled as though the figure is in motion, yet the pose is a static one. THAT’S why the figure seems “off” to me….. …and the basic pose (other than being really unbalanced) is a pretty poor one. I think it’s the pose not the detailing that makes a figure go from “good” to “great” (look at Kev’s work with Hasslefree), The legs are in the typical Space Marine 80’s “Axe Attack” pose rather than showing a figure that’s actually got a… Read more »
This one isn’t my favorite of the new models. I’m hoping it has options in the kit instead of a ‘one size fits all.’ We’ll probably get an ‘easy to build’ version first and then later a more complex one but I’m also not sure. The Vanguard primaris captain seems to be the same.
