Black Library Release Gold and Silver Aurelian

In response to the large demand for Aurelian, the latest limited edition novella of the Horus Heresy series, Black Library have announced they will be publishing 6,000 copies, rather than the original 3,000.
However, these are going to be split into two different editions, namely Gold and Silver edition.
Other than the different style titles, here's what you can expect from each edition.
Firstly, Gold edition.
This is the existing edition. Limited to 3,000 copies, each one is signed and numbered and contains internal art pieces.
Secondly, the Silver edition.
This will also be limited to 3,000 copies, but will not be signed, numbered or contain any artwork.
Both will be available in A5 hardback format from Monday 17th of October.

Was thankfully a good response to their site crashing on the day of release…its nice to see they are actually doing something to help those who felt cheated out of a copy on the evening.

IIRC they said it was a limited edition that wouldn’t be reprinted (the story not the artwork) for at least 2 years didn’t they? – kind of the point of a limited release – and it’s odd that both will be released on the same day unless their printer has an odd idea on lead times ….
£20 for the 128 page un-numbered, unsigned, no artwork (so it’s just a normal book then) silver edition is obscene – 15p per page vs 3p per page in a recent A5 (softback) book I bought recently
Good god they are saying that due to popular demand they doubled the number of prints and split them into the gold and silver release – then they have the audacity to repeat the statment that “As is standard with our limited edition novellas, we will not be releasing Aurelian in any other English language format for at least two years.” One of the poor sods that bought a gold edition wants to take this up with Trading Standards.
i really dont get this limited edition novella stuff, i don’t get why they can’t just package two together and sell them at normal prices. At least they haven’t changed the Heresy series to a Hardback-first range like GG, so silly to make fans pay double price when there’s no need. And on top of all this they aren’t charging reduced prices for their digital versions, which is meant to be the whole damn point in digital distribution!
This has been an utter PR failure for Black Library. When people talk about “the death of the publishing industry,” it’s because of business strategy like this. But being Games Workshop, they don’t care because they know there is a hardcore of (around 6,000) fans who will buy their stuff no matter what. I think it’s very interesting to note the differences between Black Library and Angry Robot, given the overlap of personnel. The only “mistake” I can see Angry Robot have made is supporting ePub rather than Mobipocket eBooks, but then they have an Amazon distribution channel anyway. It… Read more »
I forgot to mention Warlord, they’re doing some awesome stuff for historical miniatures in 28mm and there is at least one former GW employee there. Credit where it’s due.
