Big Burly Ogryn Charonite Stomp Their Way Out Of Forge World
March 6, 2015 by brennon
Forge World continue their releases to the general public Post-Horus Heresy Weekender with the Ogryn Charonite Squad for the Solar Auxilia. These guys are big, mean, tough, and maybe even a bit stupid looking?
I don't overly mind the sculpts as a whole but I think the one with the mask up just looks terrible. I also feel like they appear far too comical when they should be serious, especially considering the Horus Heresy theme...
"With the Ogryns' hands and forearms replaced by a brutal collection of mechanisms known as Charonite claws, which amplify their already fearsome strength, Ogryn Charonite squads can rip through armour plating with ease, devastating their foes in the brutal confines of boarding actions. It is little wonder then that as the wars of the Horus Heresy became ever more ferocious, Loyalist Solar Auxilia commanders increasingly turned to the creation of Charonites, particularly when facing Traitor Legiones Astartes and the forces of the Dark Mechanicum."
Once again I like the sound of what they do but the execution in model form just isn't there for me. The ones with the helmets closed aren't overly bad but I just think this time around they've missed the mark in my opinion.
Above you can get a sense of the scale of these Ogryn and you can see why they were used in greater numbers as the Horus Heresy grew in ferocity. I'm sure a lot of you out there have different opinions on these Ogryn and would gladly pick them up so let me know what you think of their look.
These Charonite are on pre-order right now and will be available to buy from March 13th.
Let me know!

Those are really nice.
Not keen on them, and the paint scheme really doesn’t help!
Superb! FW is by far the best model maker in my opinion. Each time they release something, a part of me needs to own it… but my wallet says no.
I love them. It’s worth pointing out that the one with the open mask also comes with the option to have the mask closed.
Then by all means close it. Then it won’t look like a chubby adolescent in an iron lung.
I would definitely keep all the masks closed. Indeed, I could easily imagine the Heresy era Mechanicum surgically attaching the masks to the Ogryn’s skulls so that they can’t be removed.
So long as you do that, I rather like these models. The Charonite claws certainly look the part.
Really not sure about these. On the one hand I love the details as always and the Bioshock ‘Big Daddy’ vibe of the models is ace, but on the other, that face just looks ridulous, and even though I know you can have the mask closed (great), that’s almost like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted for me. I can’t shake that image of the Vogons from my head and they’ll always be associated as such in my mind with that comedic feel rather than the terrifying killers they are. Stupid brain!!!!
I agree that the face is awful. It’s often the case that monsters (which is essentially what these are) are a thousand times more terrifying when you don’t know what they look like. The same is true of GW’s plastic ogryns; the best head are the ones with the gas masks. Having said that, FW thoughtfully provide this kit with four heads for the three models ( no mention of that in the write up @brennon ?), so if you don’t like that one head, don’t let it out you off if you like these miniatures. Ogryns are not to… Read more »
They would look alot cooler with Ripper guns or the like , but perhaps these are mostly meant to be tossing sallad or otherwise prepare food for the troops?
Not the best of FW sculpts.
Not a fan of the paint job but the minis themselves are fine.
