Becca Scott Teaches Us How To Play Warhammer 40K: Apocalypse
June 21, 2019 by brennon
Becca Scott is back teaching folks how to get stuck into the world of Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse with a new How To Play Video which you can watch above thanks to Games Workshop.
The video takes you through the different phases of the game, movement, shooting and everything else in-between. It seems like the shift towards the much easier to grasp rules with the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 have translated over into this new system which sees massive armies hitting the tabletop.
Hundreds of models, massive titans and more are going to be hitting the tabletop with Apocalypse and it does seem like games are going to play out in a pretty orderly fashion...as opposed to being chaos and taking days rather than hours.
You can also check out a new website HERE which has been set up specifically for Apocalypse.
Will you be playing this version of Warhammer 40,000?

Not sure I’d play the ruleset with 28mm minis, but if I could find my old epic stuff, I would give them a go!
That’s a great idea, I’ll have to root around the loft to see if my epic stuff is still there
Plenty of 6mm Vehicles out there on places like Thingyverse to use.
If you want to play Guard then have fun choosing between the dozens of 6mm Historical Ranges out there for troops.
Some nice proxies from https://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/ as well
I’m glad to see part of the turn being divided up into an Orders Phase followed by an Action Phase, along with some sort of import given to the interaction between a commander and the troops, both things i have long been advocating for in Warhammer 40000. Perhaps if i splice together rules from all the Games Workshop Warhammer 40000 games’ rule sets then there might be a game i like in there somewhere. Or who knows, if Games Workshop keep the monkeys typing as fast as they have been, Games Workshop might make one.
Wow the mechanics look amazing and it’s great to see permanent Detachments of troops that have to work together rather than just taking some Terminator Captain to hide somewhere while his detachment of Bikers fights on the other side of the table. The delayed wound mechanic is absolutely what normal 40K needs to stop Alpha Striking. Having to stay near your commander is also great. I really like the move away from Strength vs Defence to “Hit vs Armour” which should speed everything up so much more. If I had enough stuff to play this I’d be diving in head… Read more »
D6 and D12…..thats different. Like to see a demo soon for this…
Hmm, interesting but I want to see the Oathmark System first which unfortunately has been delayed until Feb 2020
I don’t own enough 40k minis for a battle on that scale and while I have so many other minis to paint it’s not going to happen.
Look at the Oathmark System, you can use whatever miniatures you want.
Have the rules been released yet?
Can’t find them at osprey
I think a previous further up mentioned Feb 2020 as a date for Oathmark
That’s a nice shiny advert to promote 40K + what if you don’t have a spair tennis court to play the game?
Then GW will sell you a 40k branded tennis court for only slightly more than the usual price.
Lol with a choice of imperial logo added to the court lines.
They’re forgetting the hundreds of hours and even more more hundreds of dollars required ot play a game of more than 5000 points. It’s rather annoying actually… we don’t have painting studios at our disposal.
But WAIT! All you have to do is buy models*, then slap some contrast paint on them and wallah! Apocalypse ready!
* Does not factor in removal from sprue, assembly, mold line cleaning [minimum at joint areas], priming even, bank account limits.
Why not do this at Titanicus 8mm!?!?!
Because 28mm requires you to buy more GW product 🙂
and a few Titans?
Maybe I’m getting old, but I just don’t feel as excited to buy more GW. There’s so many other lines that interest me, and I hold onto a desire to one day play some of my own games set in near future, or fantasy era’s.
Have you seen the prices on the new Apocalypse boxes? When Apocalypse first cameo out the bundles where a great price. These will be unattainable for the target audience of 13-15 yrs old.
Yes kill team is more my size game now.
I guess this ruleset could be used with a smaller amount of troops, depending on how big a detachment is and how many detachments there are.
Or go epic like other’s have?
