Battlefleet Gothic Goes Digital With Armada!
January 16, 2015 by brennon
A new RTS (Real Time Strategy) game is on the cards from Focus Home Interactive and Tindalos called Battlefleet Gothic Armada. Sound familiar?!
Well, this looks all kinds of brilliant right now and these are just the first few screenshots of the game from Twitter. Hopefully they will be going down the road of a full on fleet vs fleet game. The only downside is that it's going through Focus Home Interactive but they've done a good job on the new Mordheim game so hopefully this works out too.
Are you going to be keeping a close eye on this one?

I really really hope this doesnt suck
Like really really really really hope it doesn’t suck, battlefleet gothic was such a good game, seriously needed more recognition.
I dunno Brennon piggy backing my posts. disgraceful .. LOL
I would prefer the tabletop version or at least old rule sin digital package.
This will never bring the charm of old days…
It might not being back the charm, but what I’m hopeful about is that the popularity of these digital versions convinces GW that there is a loyal following for these variants of the IP.
I realize that its an easy win for GW to offload the support of beloved properties to third parties, but as you say, it lacks the charm of the tabletop version. Hopefully with the success of Bloodbowl, and hopefully a game like this, ‘future’ GW will find a way to bring these back to the table in spectacular fashion.
Tindalos did the excellent Stellar Impact, which was marred only by never achieving critical mass of popularity. It was also about as close to infringing on BFG IP as you could get without doing so.
Love to see what this is like!
For a minute I thought this meant the rules would be online…silly me.
Well they are on the freewargames rules site

nice
I talked with an ex-GW employee a little bit ago and it was funny the stories of how some of these games came about and the reason they were pretty much dropped/stopped being pushed by GW corporate.
I just hope this turns out good and is just as fun as the original.
Any hints about what those reasons were?
I’ve been waiting for this game for so long I even made plans for making it myself.
It would be nice if it also has a ‘traditional’ turn-based mode.
@core8ball what were those stories?
Extremely simple models, flat textures…..I don’t know, I may be wrong, but this smells of a mobile game, or more likely, a cross-platform release..which is a by-word for a tablet game with keyboard and mouse control slapped on for PC port.
I may be wrong. I wish to be wrong. Recent GW releases would suggest I am not wrong. Paywall ahoy!
True true sir. Recently GW licences bore rather poor games.
Most of their licensed property portfolio in the videogame space reeks of some executive reading in a monthly newsletter that mobile games were the 55 bajjllion dollar untapped market that should be flooded with games, there’s no doubt.
Having said that, there are definitely some gems – Carnage, Kill Team, Space Hulk, Warhammer Quest, etc., have all been quite good.
Yeah the mobile market can’t be ignored these days, I just hope this game is done well.
It can’t be ignored, but it has become a byword for no quality shovelware with paywalls or outright pay to win model, so the second a game has any chance to be on a mobile device, my expectations for it plummet.
Can’t help but jump on the cynical train and agree… 🙁
I like the sound of this, I just hope they add more playable races to it, as from what I’ve read there will only be Imperial, Chaos, Eldar and Orks.
I would love to see some Tau, Necron and Tyranid fleets eventually,
probably depends on how well the game does though.
I hope its not just a mobile game, could be good otherwise.
Fingers crossed that this will be good. I have always liked Battlefleet Gothic, and as noted by others if a computer game of it is successful we just might see a return to support for the tabletop game by GW.
I hope it’s not a mobile game.
If a fair amount of effort was put I to it, you could have an epic single player campaign in there. Pull from the source background that came with the original game and there you go. The story around the Blackstone Fortress alone would be fantastic to play through.
Actually i don’t like the Rts view… i would have prefer manage a single battleship… but if is like Homeworld… I’ll be arouse by it!
I hope they don’t do the usual, and put only three or four factions in the game. Id’ like to play with some Tau ships.
I think it will just be Imperial, Chaos, Eldar and Orks unfortunately.
The come back of flying cathedrals!
