Awaken Realms Paint Up A Superb Dawn Of War Tribute Diorama
May 7, 2016 by brennon
With the trailer out now for Dawn of War - see above - the folks at Awaken Realms were so overjoyed that they put their noses to the grindstone and painted up this brilliant looking tribute to the cinematic experience.
This piece shows an Imperial Knight smashing its way through the stomach of a Wraithknight from the Eldar faction in Warhammer 40,000. Just like in the sequence the Blood Raven Space Marine stands beneath these titans and watches them fall.
This is a great looking diorama that explores plenty of interesting techniques. We have glow effects, explosions, weapons, weathered armour, amazing scenic bases and more. It would be neat to see them do some more work based on Dawn of War in the future.
I never thought that an Imperial Knight could be that nimble to be honest but it was good to see them moving around in the trailer. As well as that it was nice to see the Wraithknights - effectively great big Eldar - gracefully moving about and then getting cut down.
What do you think of their duel?

It was so epic in the trailer, and translates so well into a mini! Well, it’s a not really a mini, they are massive! Looks cool! Love how the SM raises the sword like in the trailer!
The trailer changed how I see Imperial Knights as well. Such grace, for so big hulks! I really want to try to make a diorama of this myself now!
It is worth bearing in mind that in the fluff the Throne Mechanicum used by Imperial knights is essentially a form of advanced Mind Impulse Unit of the type used by the Titan Legions to control their war engines. It essentially transforms the Knight into an extension of the Noble Pilot’s body, lending it a degree of grace and fluidity of movement greater than might be expected from such an enormous hunk of armour plated machinery.
In the trailer the knight is running along and after being hit by the elder titan it begins to fall crashing into it.
The diorama makes it look like the knight is jumping in the air.
The way I read the trailer, it looked to me that the first Imperial Knight was cut in half by the Eldar Wraith Knight, and the second Imperial Knight threw it’s full weight into a shoulder charge against the Eldar construct, striking through it’s torso with its reaper chain blade as it did so. It didn’t look like a fall so much as a lunge to me. This diorama is a pretty fair approximation of that image, especially given how hard it must have been to convert such an unusual pose.
love the look of the game and love the diorama.
It was a fantastic trailer and this is a nice diorama. Although I do hate seeing my precious Eldar getting beat!
Wow! How long did they take to do this? Amazing…
