Games Workshop has been showing off even more of the new Astra Militarum miniatures coming to Warhammer 40,000. The Attilan Rough Riders are going to be charging back onto the battlefield with brand-new plastic kits!

Heralding from the planet of Attila, these brave fellows don't charge into battle on tanks but on the back of faithful steeds. These plastic miniatures are the first big update for the Rough Riders since 2009 and they are ready and raring to go with their hunting lances at the ready.

It looks like you get a neat set of sculpts when building your Rough Rider unit and they don't just come with the standard explosive-tipped lances anymore either. You can go for a frag tip to the lance (classic) or you can burn holes in tanks and heavy armour with a melta tip if you prefer!
These Rough Riders come with the Core keyword meaning that you could make quite a fun army of these if you wanted. They also have the Platoon keyword meaning that they can still receive orders from the likes of the Cadian Castellans.
Whilst they might be focused on close combat charges, it has also been noted that they come with lasguns as well for a few long-range engagements should it take your fancy.
I think these new miniatures are looking great. It really hits on the "Sci-Fantasy" aspect of Warhammer 40,000 and it's good to see an old favourite return to the world of Warhammer 40,000.
Are you going to be snapping these up?

They could have…..
….but no.
I was never a fan of the Attilan Rough Riders last time around (I was much more of a fan of the “original” Rough Riders complete with their Australian looking hats). Horses are WAY oversized even for a “war horse”. But I’d have to find “something” to do a headswap on these to make them look less odd at the very least.
Nah, not too big, space horses innit. And you just know that people are going to be kitbashing White Scars on to them.
I’ve always hated the Rough Riders concept. This is one Guard release I’ll be avoiding.
Absolutely love these! Will I get them? Probably not, but I like the direction they’re going with the Guard
By any means those are not bad but I have always found concept of Rough Riders overly silly.
I don’t play 40k but I quite like these, yeah they are silly but no more so than a orc on a space pig, it’s all make believe after all
They look good an with a bit off work them cavalry could be great for futuristic medieval knights. Or pre empire dark Angel calaban warriors.
Good golly these are good. And entirely unexpected for them to be the classic Attilans (albeit after a well-deserved refresh). I’m certainly down for at least a few squads, and it raises an interesting query: We’ve already had Death Korps of Krieg. Revamped Cadians are coming soon. And now we know Attillans are back on the menu. Given how GW have also done Imperial Navy Breachers – a unit type I NEVER expected to see rendered officially, let alone in plastic – I’m going to make a bold prediction; that over the course of this new Imperial Guard release (and… Read more »
Wow. That is one ugly mofo of a model. where to start? The horse looks too oversized and the caparison at the front makes it look “front heavy” and the proportions on the hooves look off. The solid metal “helmets” on the horses look bloody stupid – anyone who knows anything about horses will tell you that the horse would not be able to see where it was going. Blinkers on horses work by blotting out the horses read and backward fields of view and forcing them to look forward. That helmet would allow the horse to see sideways only.… Read more »
