Massive 40K Apocalypse Gaming Table Build [Part Three]
July 23, 2019 by lloyd
As the 40k Weekend closes in, Lloyd gets hot and steamy under the pressure of Ireland's blazing Sun to finalize the board texture for the tabletop.

You may have thought that 20ft was big for a table, however, that's just the width... what about the height?
Using the awesome terrain sent from Archon Studios this huge 20 feet table will be perfect for the new release of Warhammer Apocalypse, what armies would you deploy on this beast?
Using a grey spray primer from Halfords on that beautiful wallpaper (Click Here To Buy Your Own) we've thrown in some baking soda to add some texture to those bleak cobblestone boards. After some experiments with The Army Painter dip, we have a result that everyone's happy with and ready for the tabletop floor plan.
What else would you add for the ground level?

Remember, unless GW has increased the ranges of the weapons substantially in Apocalypse, the taller the building, no matter how impressive the build, the less likely any shooting will be to actually hit anything. And it will just block your LOS.
Did you try using a mini-roller to apply the dip, although you might get the same problem as the sponge?
@warzan the massive erection seems to be impressive given how much you’ve worked on the shaft.
The AP dip and the ones in the little bottles are I would say stains rather than washes or at least that’s how they seem to work
The erection in the middle of the table may not be the only one on the day as people see the final results.
That looks awesome, can wait to see you build Rome @lloyd 😀
oh Rome is going to look magnificent
Ah yes, the aqueducts will be spectacular. You remember what the city used to be like, garbage all over the place and no way to get effluvium from the vomitoriums flushed away. All you really need are a few temples, a public bath and maybe a few piazzas for public discourse. A fine cityscape awaits.
weirdly I don’t have any of the aquaducts yet, I must rectify that
We need holes in the ground… craters and stuff!
The pound shop has small sticky back lights which could be stuck under tall covered areas. just saying.
Small battery lights, these ones I use in Malifaux building and large round ones I use under my layered Space Hulk and game. Xx
These lights bought at pondland
Such a change even from Saturday! Its really starting to take shape! 🙂
Looks amazing.
Very impressive guys, you realize we only have starter sets right hehe
Interested to see how you attack the painting of the buildings. I imagine spray rather than drybrush due to the inconsistent finish dry brushing gives you.
Have a look at the first vlog with @johnlyons in it Gaz ,iirc,he talked about the exact thing. The buildings will be done by rattle-can alone ( simply because they’re huge ) ,the same process the guys used for their KT terrain.
Alas, the shop that carries the ‘stone’ wallpaper, does not ship to America.
I’ll have to check and see if rolls are up for grabs on Ebay.
🙁
Yeah, it looks like the company that makes that paper doesn’t ship outside the UK or EU. I can’t find a local supplier down here in Australia either…
Yup…and I’ve had no luck finding anything similar here in the states. Please let us know if you find anything. I’ll do the same.
Totally agree that the dark tone is the best choice there!
Starting to look awesomemer . . . more awesome . . . . the best!
I would have skipped the pre shading altogether. Just use the dioxide and grey primer.
And Warren, we love you, but PLEASE don’t EVER talk about massive erections AGAIN. EVER.
If you got it, flaunt it.
I wonder if anyone ever tried that as a defence when charged with indecent exposure. I doubt that worked well for them.
Incredible progress guys. That table will be absolutely epic when it’s done. You should have got @laughingboy in to do ALL the clipping though, after his fine efforts for the FoW Bootcamp…
