Ancient Space Elf Enemies Clash In 40K’s Blood Of The Phoenix
October 7, 2019 by brennon
Games Workshop has been showing off the contents of the new Blood Of The Phoenix set which is going to be coming up for pre-order this weekend. This marks the start of a new selection of releases for Warhammer 40,000 charting the course of a Psychic Awakening!
Start Your Own Aeldari Or Drukhari Force @ Store.OnTableTop
The new set will see the Drukhari clashing with the Aeldari and doesn't include a single Space Marine! The focus here is on telling the story that is unfolding between these warring factions that, whilst are essentially the same, have taken very different paths.
Inside the set, you're going to get yourself a set of Howling Banshees, Jain Zar, a Viper and also a Falcon Grav Tank. This is then pitted against the new Incubi, Drazhar, Scourges, Hellions and also a Venom for good measure. You do get quite a lot of cool stuff, especially if you pick up the Drukhari, although the Aeldari no doubt have the more hard-hitting force with that Falcon on their side.
Of course, you have to try and get Jain Zar and Drazhar to have a clash on the battlefield whilst the rest of your force clashes in the background as is only fitting.
New rules have been included within the set for using the new Phoenix Lord Jain Zar and her deadly foe Drazhar. You'll also find datasheets for all of the other models in the set so you can get playing games right away.
Mix that with a forty-page campaign book and you're going to have a nice mix of different missions to play through as the ancient grudge is rekindled on the battlefield. Both forces are looking to try and stamp their authority on the galaxy and prove that their way of life is superior.
Beyond this, we're also seeing things unfolding on a monumental scale with the addition of a new book which begins the Psychic Awakening proper...
The book, Phoenix Rising, will chart the start of a cataclysmic event which is set to change the Aeldari race and it's fate. You're going to find the forces of the Aeldari, Drukhari and Ynnari joining forces to try and stop the ultimate doom befalling everyone of their kin.
A full set of Ynnari rules is included within the book, taken from the pages of White Dwarf, and you'll also find additional rules for the main players in this massive narrative event. You can also get your hands on a set of rules for making your own Craftworlds, Cults and more!
This is similar to the way they created rules for making your own Successor Chapters in the new Space Marine Codex.
Make sure that you pick up this new boxed set and book if you want to find out what happens to the Aeldari!

IT’s a bit “but where’s the standard infantry” with this box (they really need to redo the Guardians again), it’s a box with Elites and Fast attack choices. Still nice to see GW release something that’s not got the word Primaris in there 🙂
One assumes they’ll use this as an ‘if you already have Eldar’ set. Twin it with the Start Collecting boxes perhaps although that one only has Wraithguard in it hehe – not a Guardian in sight.
But the real 2019 question is…. Which side would win in a game of Rugby between the two? 😉
Drukhari – they’d end up doing so many technical fouls that they’d cripple the Aeldari haha
Ahhh….But how many cards, of either colour, would that result in?
You have to ask the colour of the cards? Blood of the Aeldari Red of course.
The Avatar of Khaine might just give the Eldar the edge in the forwards! Hard to lift in the lineout though!
And let’s not forget the rest of the Aspect warriors …
I guess there are so many dead Eldar that practically every survivor is either an elite warrior or Wraith guard by now.
Refreshing. I do like the Howling Banshees, glad they didn’t re-imagine them. I hope this boxed set isn’t the only way to get Howling Banshees for a long period of time, the wailing and nashing of teeth from Eldar players will be too much to bear!
Space elves vs. spiky space elves. Nah, not mine… hard pass 😉
Wow. That Eldar is an *elite* force!
I have got a fair sized Drukhari army with a Star Collecting, Wyches, Scourges and more… but that box is very tempting… especially as it appears the Eldar can be used as allies for a large army.
However, I have concerns about the price… it might be high with all those vehicles included.
I’d be more worried that these vehicles are still the ancient plastics with matching instructions … 🙁
Price is tricky to judge, because we don’t know what the Banshees will cost.
Based on standard GW pricing I’d assume 50 Euro for the Banshees, 20 for their leader.
The box itself may retail around 110 Euro …
Expect it to be good value, if a bit expensive.
The only guesstimate I found was 180 euro which seemed phenomenally expensive.
Not sure exchange rate from the funny money they use in europe, but hopefully the UK price will be much less than that.
I seriously doubt it’d be 180.
WarCry is less than that … and it’s got more stuff.
Wrath and Rapture is 125, Killteam starter sets are around that pricepoint as well.
As such It’d be weird if they go over whatever those sets in your region.
Heard on chapter master valricks channel that it’s £140
We’ll know for sure when it’s time to pre order.
I’ve seen $230 quoted as retail price… convert that to pounds and you’re looking at £180-ish…
Suddenly I am a lot less interested.
Doing the GW-maths again … that 180-ish figure might not be too far off the mark. You’ve got 3 squads of elite infantry (easily 30-40 each), a few vehicles and those dark space elf grav bike (similar cost). Add to this that the Eldar vehicles are ancient and thus may be considered ‘free’ … I think the real problem is that none of those minis are available on their own at this time either so any actual value is impossible to estimate because you can’t chose to buy them on their own (at this time). With Vanguard we’ve had to… Read more »
Problem with GW pricing is that cost is based on unit value on table, not amount of plastic used.
180 Euro is the number … after discount at my favourite webshop it is 153.
Pretty expensive, but it kind of confirms the guesstimate based on GW pricing of units.
for that kind of money you can get two Star Wars: Legion core sets… that’s insane…
Nice sleek figures.
The banshee models are nice, but content-wise, it’s absolutely dreadful, especially for the rumored 180 Euro price. 5 banshees, 1 jain zar and two 25-year old vehicles?!
I think all of the content with the exception of the 2 opposing Elite teams + leaders are ancient.
I’m sure a GW-historian will know the exact age of all of them …
The only ‘good news’ is that they can be fielded as part of a single army, but it won’t be craftworld eldar if you do.
