New Age Of Sigmar Warcry Starter Set Pits Stormcast VS Soulblights
July 5, 2023 by brennon
A new Games Workshop Starter Set has been announced for those wanting to dive into Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Warcry. This one moves away from the forest of Ghur and instead delves into a clash between the Stormcast Eternals and the Soulblight Gravelords within the Crypt Of Blood.

The new set focuses on the action and had two smaller warbands made up of Xandire's Truthseekers and the Crimson Court battling it out on the tabletop. Whereas normally you make Warcry warbands out of a collection of unnamed heroes, you can also play with Bladeborn fighters which are named characters from the background. In this case, they have taken those Warhammer Underworlds' warbands and used them as the basis for this new Warcry adventure.
Crypt Of Blood - Starter Set // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Warcry
The set focuses on a battle in Noctis in Shyish where Sigmar has tasked Xandire with getting rid of the Crimson Court. As well as the miniatures, you also get a cardboard gaming board and a bunch of brand-new terrain. You also get the new Crypt Of Blood book which comes with rules for playing the warbands in the box, a set of seven battleplanes and lore for the unfolding story.
You'll get the Fighter and Ability Cards for both warbands, a set of eighteen dice and a Warcry Token Board which could be very handy during gameplay. This seems like a great way for you to get stuck into Warcry without having to buy one of the HUGE sets.
I just wish that I didn't already own those Stormcast Eternals (and my friend the Crimson Court!) otherwise I would have been picking this up. There's no word on the price for this but as a Starter Set, you'd hope it comes in at a lower cost like the one for Warhammer Underworlds.
Will you be checking out this new set?

I did like the look of this too… but I own the Crimson Court already and as I have Soul Wars from a few years back have more stormcast marines than I’ll ever need.
If they do one of these boxes with two Warcry bands I haven’t got… maybe I’ll buy it.
The minis look cool enough but damn…that’s one dull looking set. The terrain is sparse and uninteresting…1.5 walls and 2 fences.
I think you missed the tall statue in the middle and the sarcophagus near that half wall. It’s not much but maybe this is a preview of the Warcry terrain we’ll be seeing in the near future.
Nope, I just didn’t count them as they’d offer little in the way of cover or as an obstacle to movement. They both look nice enough though.
Really odd set, and I say that as a fan of both WarCry and Warhammer Underworlds. It feels almost too small for a decent game of WarCry, and given that the models are a little older – there’s not a huge amount of value there. Am interested to see a price for it though,
It’s just designed as a lower cost way for people to try out the game. I know the Crimson Court runs 590 points and using other Sig unit costs makes me think its three soldiers + the bird will probably be about the same. Once they get the basics down, then someone can figure out where they want to go from there.
I like the terrain for this game.
Does feel like they had some unsold sprues lying around that they decided to box them as a game and hope no one noticed.
