Aeldari & Chaos Clash In New 40K Set, Eldritch Omens
January 3, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop has been showing off the new boxed game coming to Warhammer 40,000 soon. The Aeldari of the Asuryani are clashing with Chaos Space Marines of the Heretic Astartes in a new boxed set, Eldritch Omens.

Eldritch Omens gives us a look at the next two factions to get an update as we move into 2022. Adeptus Custodes and Genestealer Cults are getting updated soon (see below) followed by an update to veterans of the heresy and ancient guardians of the galaxy.
New Aeldari Miniatures
The first of the new miniatures we're getting is for this new plastic Autarch. She comes with a myriad of weapon options allowing you to make your perfect martial leader for the forces of the Aeldari.
Autarch // Warhammer 40,000
The weapons in this kit are also compatible with the existing Autarch kit too, meaning that if you want to change things up and add some wings into the mix, you have that option too. I do like that we're getting more options for characters.
This Autarch is leading a set of new plastic Rangers (finally!). We have been somewhat cursed to use Finecast miniatures for the majority of the Aeldari forces up until this point so it is a welcome sight to see some new plastic models in the mix.
Asuryani Rangers // Warhammer 40,000
Asuryani Rangers and Rangers in general are some of the best looking miniatures in the overall Eldar range. I love the look of the cloaks over the armour and the way the hoods work with both their helmets and face masks. I am certainly going to be picking up a pack of these when they release.
The Rangers are also making their way around the battlefield atop some new vehicles. The Shroud Runners bring together the speed of Windriders with the precision shooting of the Rangers.

If you're looking to really, really annoy your opponents with harassing fire then these seem spot on. It looks like the default set-up for them is to use Scatter Lasers to hose down your enemies and keep them ducking for cover before the passengers pick off choice targets.
New Chaos Space Marine Miniatures
The forces of Chaos get some new miniatures too. Leading the way is a new miniature for the Warpsmith.
Warpsmith // Warhammer 40,000
The Warpsmith is a dark and twisted take on the Tech Marines of the Adeptus Astartes. With all manner of mechanical tentacles twisting and writhing around him carrying all sorts of weapons, this fellow is going to be a dangerous opponent on the battlefield.
Following the Warpsmith into battle is a new unit of Chaos Chosen. These are veteran warriors who have been gifted powers, mutations and more by the dark gods.
Chaos Chosen // Warhammer 40,000
Many of these warriors would find themselves fighting under the sway of one warlord or another but could easily rise through the ranks and become champions of Chaos themselves. They can be armed with a variety of different weapon options as you can see. I do wonder how interchangeable all of this will be and if there will be more options beyond what we've been shown here.
The last of the miniatures for the Chaos half of the box is the Forgefiend/Maulerfiend. You sense that perhaps the Warpsmith has stoked this beast into life and sent it stomping across the battlefield.
Forgefiend // Warhammer 40,000
Whilst this isn't a new miniature, it is a cool looking one at the very least. I had one of these in my Chaos army a couple of editions ago and it would do some serious damage to anything that stood in its way.
I was very much of the mindset that I was going to end up buying this boxed set but I think I might wait. I do really want the Rangers but that's about it in the immediacy. I think I'll wait to see these miniatures releases individually and check out what changes they make as the new Codex rolls around!
Talking of previews, we did also see this...
A Sneak Peek At Warhammer In 2022
There are some strong hints towards some new miniatures for the Aeldari in there. I'm seeing something Dark Reaper-ish (perhaps Maugan Ra himself?) alongside a new Avatar Of Khaine. I reckon they might make it a kit that comes with both spear and sword to echo the Forge World variant.
Genestealer Cults & Adeptus Custodes Incoming
As well as the upcoming release of the new miniatures for the Aeldari and Chaos Space Marines, we also have a couple of books getting released this coming weekend.
Codex Genestealer Cults //Warhammer 40,000
Codex Adeptus Custodes - Warhammer 40,000
The new Codexes follow on from the boxed set that we got before the end of 2021. You'll be able to get the standard edition of the Codex or the full art variant (pictured above left). Each comes packed with brand new rules for using both forces including updated Strategems, Relics, Warlord Traits and (hopefully) bespoke options for Crusade games.
Each Codex also comes with new Datacards and rather lovely looking custom dice too. I do like these dice...
Genestealer Cults Dice & Cards // Warhammer 40,000
Adeptus Custodes Dice & Cards // Warhammer 40,000
I would imagine that these dice are going to be rather hard to get your hands on but the Datacards do end up being available for a fair time after release. So, depending on how much reverence you want to show to your force of choice, make sure to keep your finger over the refresh button this weekend.
What? A New Space Marine?!
As well as all that, we also got told that we're also getting a brand new Space Marine miniature too! We were running out so I'm glad they sorted this out.
Primaris Ancient // Warhammer 40,000
This is a new Primaris Ancient carrying the banner of their Chapter into the midst of battle. This miniature has the option of replacing their Bolt Rifle with a decidedly better weapon choice. You could imagine this fellow would find himself in the thick of the action most of the time so a proper melee option seems appropriate.
Are you going to be snapping up some of these new releases when they pop up?

Nice to see the Aeldari getting some love. I know people criticise GW for how many products they put out in a year but the number of armies that have had a bit of love over the past few years has been really good.
Aye – it does seem like they’ve done a decent job starting to fill the gaps. 2022 seems to be the year for a lot of the forgotten factions too.
I’d say like the Orks the Eldar were about two decades late for a good update to their core troops. It is good to see them get updates though (I hope the Aspect warriors get plastic variants too). The troops in the battle box just don’t make any sense at all, but that kind of applies to all of them so far so it’s not a new flaw. A group of eldar scouts vs chaos marines ? In what universe would that even be an interesting battle ? Unless they introduce stupendously complicated ‘special’ rules like they’re doing for the… Read more »
Not bad boxed set. Of course it would be even better IMO (not to mention even more fitting) if those CSM were Emperor’s Children themed with HQ choice being character for them.
fab new figures.
Today it bothers me that GW have focused so much on Chaos Space Marines that it seems like Chaos has been failing to corrupt all of the normal humans and aliens in the galaxy.
I shall rant a little now.
Like, of all the crazy humans to whom Chaos could be corrupting and granting gifts and mutations, we have to focus on the one in 0.00000001% of the population that were super soldiers before they were corrupted and granted gifts and mutations. Warhammer/Blood Bowl/Age of Sigmar, etc has shown us that Chaos can take human warriors and turn them into super soldiers without all of the hassle of having to start with indoctrinated super soldiers. But where are all of the corrupted hordes of cultists who aren’t being directly escorted by corrupted Astartes? Where are the cult leaders who earned… Read more »
