Games Workshop are going to be firing up pre-orders once again and leading the way is a bunch of new Warhammer 40,000 releases. The Adeptus Mechanicus are seeking to appease the Machine God with a selection of new inventions and contraptions.

Engine War - Warhammer 40K

Dive Into Warhammer 40K @ Store.OnTableTop

First up, we have another of the books in the Psychic Awakening series. Engine War focuses in on the Adeptus Mechanicus at its core but it also covers Imperial Knights, Chaos Knights, Chaos Daemons and especially the forces of Slaanesh. An odd collection I'm sure you'll agree but it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

As well as adding to the storyline unfolding with the Psychic Awakening, it will also allow you to bring new units to the tabletop for the Adeptus Mechanicus. Are you going to be picking up this army of frankly rather weird individuals?

Leading The Way

Available originally in the Kill Team Theta-7 Acquisitus box, the Tech-Priest Manipulus is now available on his own. They have been heavily modified, as with the rest of their kin, and now simply float across the battlefield, directing the action unfolding before them.

I like the amount of inventiveness that you get with the Adeptus Mechanicus. I love the idea that they begin to slowly add bits and pieces to their bodies as they realise they need a new tool. This means there is little 'order' to their new bodies and it looks more and more like a swiss army knife as time goes by!

Mechanical Riders

As well as this new leading figure for the Adeptus Mechanicus, we also have the bounding and leaping forms of the Serberys Raiders & Sulphurhounds. They can be armed with an array of different weapons and some of them even ride into battle atop fire-breathing mounts which make things all the more terrifying!

Again, I really like the mix of new designs in play here. It would make sense that the Adeptus Mechanicus would craft themselves beings of metal to ride rather than just trundling around in big vehicles. Plus, regardless of any reasoning - it just looks cool! There is very much a 'Da Vinci' feel about everything we're seeing from the Adeptus Mechanicus right now.

As well as these new riders that are skipping across the red earth of Mars, the Adeptus Mechanicus has also managed to take to the skies too.

Striking From Above

As well as the Serberys Raiders & Sulphurhounds, we also have the Pteraxii Sterylizors & Skystalkers who look like they are going to be giving the Adeptus Mechanicus a bit of speed on the tabletop. Now you'll be able to float down the flanks of the enemy army and harass them with flamers and such from on high.

The bladed feet are the elements of these models that I really like. It brings them in line with the dinosaur/bird aesthetic and makes them seem all the more deadly. You have to hope that those wings are sturdy considering the amount of firepower being thrown around in Warhammer 40,000.

Sticking with the idea of striking from the skies with bullets and fire, we also have the Archaeopter which we saw months and months ago. Again, this feels very much like something that Da Vinci would have created if he'd managed to live through to the grimdark future of Warhammer 40,000.

Again, it's quirky and weird but I love that eccentric nature to the Adeptus Mechanicus. They don't really care what other factions make as long as they can have fun with the assembly line. I could see some people doing some interesting things with the poses for this flyer too.

Start Collecting

With new miniatures comes the urge to start a new army. So, with that in mind, there is going to be a new Start Collecting! set in the mix for the Adeptus Mechanicus.

This box comes with ten Skitarii Vanguard/Rangers, a Tech-Priest Enginseer and finally a Skorpius Dunerider. This vehicle can also be built as a Skorpius Disintegrator if you would prefer to do something different with it.

Are you tempted to dive in and check out the Adeptus Mechanicus?
