The first big set of releases for Warhammer 40,000 and the Adeptus Custodes hit this coming weekend. Games Workshop previewed some of what you've got to look forward to in their Warhammer Community blog.

Trajann Valoris - Warhammer 40K

Leading from the front we will have the mighty Trajann Valoris here. As characters go in power armour this fellow is looking rather splendid. I like what they've done with the armour, which doesn't appear to have gone over the line of looking too busy. That weapon is a thing of beauty too I'd say.

There is also the new set of models in plastic for the Allarus Custodians. This set allows you to either make a unit of the Terminators to act as Trajann's honour guard perhaps...

...or maybe work them into more characters for your force. As well as allowing you to make these, and I hesitate to call them this, regular troops, you can also make yourself a Shield Captain too.

The box also makes another character choice for you as well with the banner waving and morale-boosting Vexillus Praetor who will most likely fill a similar role to the one the Ancient plays in a Primaris Space Marine force.

Now we've got a better look at the design of these models close up I actually quite like how they've come together. The Adeptus Custodes models previously have felt a little disjointed and unrealistic but I think they've done a good job with this plastic kit to make sure they skirt the line quite nicely, much in the same way as with the character models.

Credit where credit is due, Games Workshop has got some nice toy soldiers here. The real problem for me, therefore, lies in customisation and personalisation.

While of course there's nothing stopping you painting these fellows a different colour - would it feel wrong to not paint them in gold? They should be quite the doddle to paint which is an upside!

What do you think of these upcoming releases?
