Games Workshop revealed this weekend that the Adeptus Custodes are coming to Warhammer 40,000 with a proper Codex packed with more choices for your army.

As well as new rules, new options, new tactics and more they will also be joined by new units including some cool looking plastic kits.

We know, for example, just by looking at this image and the trailer above that we're going to be getting some new plastic Terminators for the Adeptus Custodes as well as characters like Captain-General Trajann Valoris and even some vehicles too.

While it's good that we're getting a cool new force to throw into our Warhammer 40,000 I can't help but echo the thoughts of a friend of mine on the matter. Yes, it's cool to show them on the battlefield but does it break the mystique of them a little?

The Adeptus Custodes have always been a force to be reckoned with, beyond normal Space Marines and deadly in their battle tactics - now with them on the tabletop, for someone who is a bit of a narrative fiend, suddenly we're going to be seeing them cut down by regular Orks and small arms fire from a Penal Legion?

Of course, gameplay has to be balanced, and they could never really do the Adeptus Custodes justice in reality (much like with regular Space Marines) but in some ways, maybe this is a little bit of a shame.

Thousand Sons

Arrayed against them always are the forces of Chaos and with that, we get news that there is also a Codex for Thousand Sons coming soon too...

Codex Thousand Sons

Contained within we'll find more rules and options for your traitor legions who are wielding powerful psychic abilities on the battlefield. The Thousand Sons have always been a fascinating Legion to consider, very different in style from most of the other traitors AND with some awesome ways to paint them in their scarab-blue armour.

I'm sure many folks will be glad to see some additional rules coming their way.

What do you think of the news?
