Add The Heraldry Of The Blood Angels To Your Heresy Troops
September 12, 2015 by brennon
Forge World have added some more upgrade kits to the range of Horus Heresy components available for the Loyalists. This time around the focus is on the Blood Angels with Heads, Torsos and then a series of Shoulder Pads just like with the Dark Angels.
Space Vampires?
Kicking things off we'll have a look at the heads for the Blood Angels which come in a variety of designs. I actually like the plainer ones in this set compared to others. The solitary tear on the helmets adds to their 'mystery' and plays into this idea of vamperism a bit more - as well as a Greek Hoplite idea.
As well as the helmets we have the torsos which bear the iconic tear of the Blood Angels in a range of different settings. In this case I like the one in the bottom right the most with the skull sitting in the middle of it all.
While Games Workshop do love their skulls I think it's a telling sign of things to come with the Death Company.
Shoulder Pads - All The Rage
It wouldn't be an upgrade kit without the addition of some more shoulder pads of various Marks. There are the MK II, III and IV variants to pick from. The ones modelled here on the Space Marines below are the MK IV variant.
Once again this looks like a neat upgrade kit and I can already hear a few people mumbling about using these in Warhammer 40,000 as well as Horus Heresy games to give their armies a bit more personality.
Are Blood Angels your chapter of choice?

A couple of the helmets and chest plates I’m not a fan of but again if I was a BA collector I would almost certainly pick these up. I really like the helmet in the top row in the middle. I dislike the emo/goth type blood tear drop on the cheek and would be cutting that off in short order! After reading about half of the HH books I really don’t see the Legions as being particularly ornate or decorative in their armour styles, so some of the more fancy stuff I don’t think works for my interpretation of the… Read more »
Nice bits would be excellent for 40k as well especially death company and veterans. Fluffwise it makes sense BA would have more old armour in active use due to a) annoying mars by blagging the STC for Lucifer pattern engines, so denied newer rediscoveries’ such as centurion armour or the AA rhinos b) they have the skills in house to build their own (nipple) armour so stands to reason they can repair and maintain the older varients c) as a chapter they tend to have long lifespans Dante being over 1000, so why not hang onto armour that’s served you… Read more »
Awww yeah! It’s great to see some Heresy BA.
not a BA man but they look good to mix with standard troops or for special units/Co’s
I like how they are somewhat toned down in comparison to 40k blood angel iconography
not a big fan on the helmets which is a shame as I was thinking of mixing it in to my 40k army.
i for one have been waiting for a long time for my chapter to finally make it into the HH and as cool as they the space marines will look i for one are keeping my eye out for the plastic HH from GW /WH and Sanguinius .
Sanguinius has the potential to be stunning. I’m interested to see what the Blood Angels custom squads are. After all its where the Sanguinary Guard and Sanguinor started in the Heresy so will FW step on GW toes with a Heresy Sanguinary Guard?
Id dare say sanguinary guard could just be existing sculpts with some HH era weaponary and shoulder pads, as aint their armour meant to be relics in 40k?, if so then just make the gold shiner cus its newer in HH ;), same is true with sanguinor. I guess its a good thing being a BA player as artificer armour pretty much defies power armour MK’s as it is, just the helmets really to peg it as a certain vinatge, so any 40k BA squad with suitable helmets and accessories could be fielded and look right. As for the sanguinius… Read more »
