Accursed Cultists & The Possessed Surge Into Warhammer 40,000
August 22, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop is going to be firing up a new set of pre-orders for the Chaos Space Marines of Warhammer 40,000. Some twisted individuals are joining the collection that have received mighty "gifts" from the Chaos Gods.

The first set features the Accursed Cultists that are going to be surging forward to overwhelm the beleaguered Imperial forces of a world. As a shambling mass of bones, teeth and tentacles, these are going to be a seriously deadly melee threat for you to consider adding to your collection.
I love how the design team seems to have had a bunch of fun coming up with exactly how these Cultists have been possessed and twisted. I like how you could almost find the untouched "Cultists" in your collection and then find the warped version (well, even more warped!). These should also be a lot of fun to paint, especially when embracing the super grimdark nature of Warhammer 40,000.
It's not just the Cultists that are receiving gifts. The Chaos Space Marines have also had a proper glow-up with all manner of cool Possessed joining warbands.

I don't like these as much as the Cultists but that's probably because we've seen Chaos Space Marines as Possessed before. These are a marked improvement over the older miniatures though I will say and I think that Games Workshop has got the balance of armour to weird mutation more on point. I particularly like the fellow in the top right with the crab claw. Everyone likes a crab claw.
Chaos Daemons On The Way
As well as the Chaos Space Marines getting a few updates, there is also a brand new Combat Patrol on the way for the Chaos Daemons.
Combat Patrol: Chaos Daemons // Warhammer 40,000
This one focuses specifically on Khorne and offers up a murderous boxed set of miniatures as followers of the Blood God. Inside you'll find three Bloodcrushers on Juggernauts, ten Flesh Hounds and twenty Bloodletters who are being led by a Bloodmaster. It comes to a Power level of thirty-three meaning that you can introduce this force into your games and get started pretty easily.
Tactics-wise you'll just need to make sure that you surge forward as quickly as possible and get into combat before your enemy knows what's happening! This should also be a fairly easy army to paint as a beginner. Crack out the Contrast paints and this force should be done in no time, especially when it comes to the rank and file.
To run a Chaos Daemons army you're going to need some rules.
Codex: Chaos Daemons // Warhammer 40,000
So, the brand new Codex will also be landing on the Games Workshop webstore this weekend. It will come with rules for all of the Chaos Daemons out there in The Warp, not just Khorne. Make yourself an Undivided force and bring the full might of the Chaos Gods to the tabletop.
If you want to go all in on the Chaos lovin' then you can also pick up a set of very cool Chaos Daemon Dice.

The marble-like swirls in the designs here are very hypnotic and work well when it comes to continuing that Chaos feel. The black and white design also works well when considering the Undivided theme and running with someone like Be'lakor as your lord and master!
All of these miniatures and accessories will be available to snap up via pre-order this weekend so keep an eye out!
Are you tempted by these new offerings?

They are technically good models, but I have to be honest and say that they are really not my cup of tea. Way over-the-top!
That’s the problem with the way GW has trained us now….
With the CSM Codex well in the rear view mirror, having a couple of boxes for it come out now, when the hype train has already moved on…. The sales will probably not be as high.
I would have gotten both upon release, if they came out with the codex, but now I’m going to wait until nearer Xmas I think…
Too busy anticipating the Traitor Guard Kill Team release, hopefully when the “Into The Dark” boxset comes out.
GW has adopted a full-on “churn and burn” release system, to the point they can’t keep up themselves with what’s coming out.
Ooh nice I love the cultists figures with the thing look to them.
Those are really nice.
