Check Out 40K’s Leagues Of Votann Exo-Armoured Einhyr Hearthguard

Games Workshop has continued its previews for the return of the Warhammer 40,000 Leagues Of Votann this week with a look at their Exo-Armoured elite troopers. What do you make of the Einhyr Hearthguard clad in pretty hefty armour?

The Einhyr Hearthguard are the best of the best within Leagues Of Votann society. They carry the best armour and the best weapons that the Leagues can offer up and this makes them the perfect shock unit to drop into battle.

Each of the Einhyr is armed with a Volkanite Disintegrator and can make use of their Concussion Gauntlets and Plasma Blades when it comes to getting up close and personal with the enemy. You can also just smash someone to pieces with one of those impressive-looking hammers.

You can also see that each of these warriors comes with a Grenade Launcher strapped to their shoulders. This means they can lay down some serious firepower when it comes to assaulting an enemy on the tabletop.
When it comes to the overall look of these miniatures, I started off not being very sure about them. I thought things looked a little bit off with the proportions and posing. But, as I've looked at them a little more over the last few hours I have started to quite like the overall look. I do like some of the bare heads but I reckon that I would give most of them full helmets; if that's an option on the kit.
In general, I think these look great. I have already been thinking up a good way to paint these when they arrive on my tabletop. I am tempted to paint them in orange armour with black undersuits as I don't think we see enough orange on the tabletop.

I like them, they look a bit like Starcraft Marines and I always liked their design.
“It’s about time!”
Or Gears of War.
I thought they’d be taller …
A little short for a starcraft marinnes, aren’t they ?
These ain’t Stormtroopers, so it’s not a problem 😉
I know it’s a 40k trope and that opinions vary but I hate the horsey totem thing. Apart from that I love them.
The star and runes badge on the shoulder is fantastic – super sci-fi with a Nordic twist. It’s a small detail but a brilliant one.
I’m not getting a squats army but I like it.
I had the same thought to why a horse ? Not is not even that Nordic why would squats have that. someone did suggest it is a beer dispenser tho 🙂
Yes! Now you’re talking!
Dwarves are famous for using ponies as beasts of burden. So, I’m viewing that as in honor of the mighty Pony, bringer of beer kegs.
Mantic: “GW aren’t doing Squats, let’s do a space dwarf army”
GW: “Hey, people are buying that competitors space dwarves, let’s release our own, same design, twice the cost”.
Glad to see I wasnt the only one to think this.
I like them, but I can see the mantic influence. I like GW but they sometimes don’t do themselves any favours by being quick to call foul in an industry that has a huge amount of cross pollination and then release something like this. Would have preferred them to be closer to the original exo armour design but hope they use it for the iron kin heavies.
Considering using Squats as an in to the OPR which seems quite popular.
Agreed
Those do look really good.
Great looking figures for spacehulk’ers.
These are cool looking, I like them… if they come with helmet options.
Youre going to war, put your helmet on.
It’s weird… Mantic was formed by disgruntled former GW employees who went off to form their own game company, made a huge profit doing everything GW didn’t want to do (bringing back space dwarves, making space Skaven, keeping the classic WHFB armies going), and now GW turns around and is ripping off Mantic because people like Mantic better than them. Funny how the tables have turned.
Looks good! Glad they didn’t stick with the goofy double wide helmet look. Speaking of helmets, I REALLY hope there are enough for the whole squad in the kit. I never got that “lets put them in the heaviest of heavy armor and leave the most vulnerable portion open” look. Otherwise, not a bad kit from GW.
“You want a piece of me, boy?”
They’re neat models, but as others have said, the ‘influences’ here are very obvious. When Games Workshop released the new Van Saar miniatures for Necromunda, it was obvious that someone was taking inspiration from the Infinity range.
These Dwarfs are clearly Starcraft Marines (especially the bottom right with the open dome helmet), mixed with Mantic Peacekeepers. Mantic’s new boxed set just released with one of these guys, complete with power punching dagger, front and center. It’s really hard to think it’s all just coincidence.
They wear their inspiration on the sleeve, but I like them none the less, starcraft terran design is iconic for a reason.
The little horse heads are neat, nice to see a bit of a bronze-age inspiration vs the usual What Victorians Thought Vikings Were “nordic”
