The 40K Leagues Of Votann Get Their Berserk Space Dwarves
August 1, 2022 by brennon
Games Workshop has dropped another miniature reveal for Warhammer 40,000 and the Leagues Of Votann. Today is the day to get up close and personal with the Cthonian Berserks.

Rather than shooting down foes from aware with an array of long-ranged weapons, the Cthonian Berserks are armed with a selection of different powerful melee weapons. These Mining Guild members have been enhanced physically to work in some of the harshest environments out there so that makes them badass fighters when it comes to warfare.

Flooded with cyberstimms, these Berserks can charge through a hail of oncoming fire and then smash their foes to a pulp using plasma axes and concussion mauls. Once again, it feels like Games Workshop has taken a leaf out of the Mantic Games Warpath design book but I do like how these have turned out.
I was hoping that we'd see some "Space Dwarf Berserkers" and Games Workshop didn't disappoint. It should be fun painting these up and going to town with the battle damage on the miniatures. I also like that they are clearly strong but also augmented to make them able to go toe-to-toe with some of the big nasties out there.
Are you liking the Cthonian Berserks?

I think I prefer Mantic’s Forge Father Artificers.
So this faction consists of…
Hover trikes.
Wheeled vehicles.
Light Armor.
Heavy Power Armor.
and now
Bare chested berserkers?
I don’t know why, but it just seems like these guys are all over the place. Really suffering from a lack of theme.
no
I dig them, but I’m feeling like this force almost fits better in non-40k applications. Which is good for me, because I play minis-agnnostic games, and these guys seems to be generic enough that they’ll fit those types of games easier than other GW minis, but as slayerofworlds pointed out, they really do seem to be pretty scattershot for a 40k army.
Maybe some photos of a full Votann force, instead of the individual sets, will bring them together more, aesthetically.
I can see using these guys in Five Parsecs, though.
Awaiting Wargames Atlantic ‘did it better’ set
Did it better AND cheaper! ?
So true ?
I am on the fence with these. I don’t hate them and I don’t love them, but I still think the female head on a male body looks silly. Otherwise I think these would qualify as an ‘acquired taste’. You get use to them after a while.
Never really got why Space Dwarfs need slayers just because WFB Dwarfs had them.
The sculpts are too much really, with comically over-sized weapons and tubing everywhere which is daft in a close combat unit as it provides plenty of places for opponents to cause damage and for fighters to catch their own weapons on.
All in all very meh for me.
I am not feeling those.
space dwarf berserker’s with no ginger hair no just NO.
Nope, nope and nope. They’ve presented them as a hi-tech group so far so I don’t see the point of this unit and will not be adding them if I decide to go League of Votann
“Jumped the shark” yet again with this release in my opinion (talk about bringing a knife to a gun fight). The whole Voltann faction is a mess of styles and function. They are supposed to be even more technologically advanced than Space Marines, but here they are “sans armour” and running around with big hammers/axes.
The other minis look like Primaris Marines that someone stepped on the master, these look like Grey Wolf Space Marine Berserkers that someone (again) has stepped on.
Not good, not original, not evocative. I’d expect more from GW 🙁
I completely agree that the style of the Voltann’s are very much all over the place. Some of the models I love others like this I hate. It is difficult to get a feel for the army. if you doing dwarfs make them look like dwarfs.
It leaves a bad taste in the mouth, but I AGREE with slayer on this one; at this point, Gee Dubs’ plan for these guys seems really sloppy and they’re really starting to suffer from “throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks”, and anything that would make them a cohesive and unique faction apart from them being dwarves seems to have been lost in the planning stage.
