Great show guys even though there was a bit of faffing about with a Nob… The Emperor’s Champion was originally available to all Space Marine chapters when he was first released. Later he was bound in with the Black Templars, but subsequent codicies saw the addition of Command squads which added a Company Champion, who is effectively the same guy. I reckon the Dark Angels Azrael and Belial can hold their own in a fight. High WS, Strength, Initiative and 4 attacks. Combined with Master-crafted + Fleshbane swords. The last game of 50k I played ended with my Belial against… Read more »
Ah 40k, even.
I fight for The Greater Good, so the only challenge I’m interested in is from how far away I can shoot a fly off Papa Nurgle’s shoulder. 🙂
Apart from the heroic intervention (and the joy of being able to shout “I challenge you!”) I don’t really see what benefit the challenge rules have in the game. The combat is resolved along with the rest of the battle and wounds carry over anyway. So apart from pushing a cowardly character out of combat I still don’t really see a good use for it.
If someone can enlighten me, please do.
Mentioning the Greater Good Farsight comes into my mind. I had once a game when I played him the first time. My opponent didn’t know anything about him and thought “well, just a Tau with a blade”. So he challenged Farsight, because hi wanted to kill him before the Bodyguards could interfere. He had only a SM-Captain. Farsight struck first. My opponent’s face was freezed (he thought Farsight is a good Tau with Ini 2 😉 ). The Captain was killed without dealing a single strike and I got “kill the Warlord”. The face I saw was brilliant 🙂
I ment the Captain had no hit… they struck simultaniously.
A true water cooler moment!
Just to clarify.. The Warboss did three wounds on the Archon, all causing instant death, wouldn’t the remaining two wounds carry over to the rest of the unit… Or am I interpreting this rule incorrectly??
You are completely right on this, they would indeed carry over, a bit like the old overkill rule in Warhammer Fantasy Battle.
Also I agree, Mephiston is a beast, especially if he has used some sweet psykic powers.
Its worth mentioning Iron Arm here for all psykic characters who might end up in combat!
I would go Mephiston :o)
I found Lelith Hesperax a strong character, but I don’t know if she’s still good in the latest version of dark eldar.
From what I remember she is quite heavy on points, Although I would never call her that to her face! The Eldar races have the advantage of generally high initiative values.
It’s a real shame when a nob fails to rise to a challenge fnar fnar
🙂 lol
well that was an interesting video you will sleep well tonight after all the action you got @warzan ?
A few things on your examples: 1) emperors champion – his defense is a big deal. Lucius has a 3+ save, so any power weapon is ignoring his armor save, and thus his armor’s ability to bounce back wounds. The emperors champion’s 2+ save is only usually defeated by AP2 weapons. Most AP2 weapons are unwieldy, thus strike at Initiative 1. So, if someone is ignoring his armor save, he is usually hitting them first at Initiative 5 3) the emperors champion is often the better type of challenge character, the tough one. Often the benefit of challenging an opponents… Read more »
I agree the Emperors Champion isn’t exactly a slouch in combat, but I would worry about putting him up against anything too tough. His low attacks given his points value is definitely an issue. Still a fun unit to use, and a great model!
I was playing Astra Militarum against Orks a while ago and I drew an objective card telling me to issue a challenge that turn. The only way I could get anyone close enough to do so was by making my veteran squad charge at the Kill Krusha tank occupied by the enemy warlord. We have no idea if this is allowed in the rules but i made my sergeant issue a challenge, shouting up at the armoured monstrosity in an attempt to draw the boss out. If I remember correctly he declined, reversed the tank and blasted the squad with… Read more »
Kharn the betrayer, simple as that.
