30th Anniversary Space Marine Now Available From Games Workshop
September 2, 2017 by brennon
While it hasn't exactly wowed people, the new 30th Anniversary Primaris Space Marine is now available for you to pre-order from Games Workshop for your games of Warhammer 40,000.
The model is a multi-part plastic kit and shows off an Intercessor Veteran Sergeant with his Bolt Rifle in hand and sheathed sword at his back. You can also tweak things a little and have him without a helmet if you prefer.
I think I prefer the helmeted version of this particular character. As I've mentioned before, I think that this model, whilst entirely unassuming is probably quite a cool thing to include in your army when you think about it. He will fit in with any army and only those in the know will be able to point him out and remark on the fact that he's a special piece.
It means you're not including something over-the-top in your force. But, that's just me playing Devil's advocate I reckon.
What do you think of the model?

well i have all the other 30th aniversary mini’s be silly not to get this one…
For being 30th Anniversary miniature it sure doesn’t look anything special. And that’s problem with it. It’s supposed to be celebration of 30 years of 40k but instead of something truly special and maybe even iconic we just get Primaris Veteran Sergeant. Which is why it feels like huge let down in comparison. Something similar to 25th Anniversary Space Marine that’s taken from some iconic 40k art work would had been much better.
Like or dislike the unimposing stature, the price is silly either way. 20 quid for a single plastic mini, or…20 quid for a handful of similar plastic minis.
But, it’ll prolly sell quite well.
I paid £30 for 25th anniversary model. Worth every penny and that was only a single model
I paid less for it, and thats what it was worth to me. Not that it makes any difference to kepler, but atleast i posted something.
“The model is a multi-part plastic kit ” … not really though is it? This pathetic model with no distinguishable details or character made me laugh. Pretty much all of GW’s original metal marines have more class than this plastic trash. GW has been doing a lot of good lately but the Primaris Marines are starting to look like an expensive debacle. You can’t use them as True-Scale marines because they’re not true scale marines, far too lanky. Their in-game use isn’t too different from what you already have within the game. They look a little too sci-fi for comfort.… Read more »
Wow. I mean, I am disappointed with the anniversary miniature but man you’re salty about it.
Sooo, do you, like it or not?
So… Are they true-scale or not? One of your criticisms is about Primaris being true-scale, another that they are not. I appreciate that the two sizes of marine may appear jarring stood next to each other, and I’m unsure whether I’d want to mix Primaris size marines into my existing Space Wolf collection. I agree the back-story for the Primaris marines is a bit weird, but I quite like the models. They look suitably imposing, and if I ever put together an army together with them I’d only use the ones I particularly liked. So far, 8th edition seems well-geared… Read more »
Is the back story any more weird than the rest of 40k?
IMO it’s not weird as much as badly written like most new fluff. Which is shame because 40k has had some well written fluff with exception to what Matt Ward had written but they had dropped ball during Gathering Storm and that continues with Primaris fluff.
Maybe I do mean badly written, but I might have been being overly generous.
I do wonder if I’m just a stick-in-the-mud for the older lore, and I’m just skeptical of some of the fluff stuff that’s going on around the new edition. There’s still more than enough that I do like; I can concentrate on that and mainly just forget a lot of the background I find dubious.
Yep I want this
£20… lol
Makes me miss the days of the likes of Sgt Centurius and the original Emperors Champion model….
Perfectly good mini for release, not a 30th anniversary model. Price point or a mini you could get a close conversion to at same price of a unit to do it is making it a real one for the collectors.
Also so many missed opportunities, so much Rogue Trader art that could have been made into stunning minis.
That’s my thoughts. It’s not an awful model, it’s just not particularly special and certainly not worthy of something like a 30th anniversary
30th anniversary, eh? This isn’t even a conversion – this is barely a kitbash. It’s gotta be pretty hard to make your limited edition model look less exciting than the rank and file boxes of five for the same money – plus you’re displacing one of your 5/10 existing models, so it’s a £20 upgrade for a £20/£40 unit that adds very little, visually, or gameplay wise – I blame vidya games and the people that pay £5 for a hat in Team Fortress. (I considered talking about Overwatch, GTA Online etc, but decided that the Team Fortress hat thing… Read more »
Plus I’d still possibly pay £20 for one of them 30th Anniversary Imperial Space Marines.
They seem to be selling on ebay for between £30 and £40.
Meh
I have to say GW have been on form recently and put out some great products – even the Primaris Marines (and I am not a fan of Marines). But this is a real dropped ball, the first major one for a while IMO. To me, this model says nothing about 40k’s past, it’s 30 years of history, lore, artwork and imagery. Primaris Marines are pretty much the future of 40k – no denying that – and they’re getting a lot of focus right now. But I think it would have been far better to have made a reference to… Read more »
30th Anniversary of 40k model so could have been the Emperor of Mankind.
Last seen alive in the 30th Millenium…
Then on the 40th Anniversary you could have the model of him on the Golden Throne.
maybe they forgot the anniversary was coming up and just split up a tactical box set and are selling the minis individually.
That has to be the most uninspired limited ed anniversary model ever you would be hard pressed to find anything more lackluster or generic. They should’ve just sold a round slotta base it would be about as impressive
I would have more use for a round slottabase…
Im half tempted to crack open my second imperial space marine, to graft the bonkers gun on to this one, ordered it, like i said have just about every other aniversary mini they have released so the collector in me meant it was pre ordered, thinking of making a fun diorama with the imperial marine, grombrindal in power armour and this one, something like a ramones album cover….
Perhaps they were trying to for the classic marine look reimagined for primaris…..I don’t think they got it. There was so much potential for an anniversary model and I feel it was wasted really. Just because you want him able to fit into any marine army doesn’t mean you can’t go to town with his pose, or base or….anything really.
I think when you create an anniversary model like this it needs to appeal to a wide audience, not just people who collect an army in which it can be used. You’re essentially trying to sell a miniature to people who would not otherwise buy a model of that type. That’s why the 40k and Warhammer 25th Anniversary miniatures were so good. If you wanted to use them as army pieces you could, but they could also be made into vignette and display pieces that portrayed iconic pieces of art from the two games. I don’t collect space marines but… Read more »
Completely agree, a primaris take on classic 40k art would have been fantastic. Well as GW seem to be listening to the community more these days hopefully they’ll take this on board!
I probably still wouldn’t have gone for a primaris take on a classic piece of 40k art. I’m not particularly enthused by the Primaris re-imagining of the Rogue Trader cover that is gracing this month’s white dwarf. I don’t know why I hold these opinions because I don’t actually have anything against Primaris Marines.
