40K’s 10th Edition Space Marines; New Scouts, Jump Packs & More!
August 31, 2023 by brennon
Games Workshop didn't leave the new 10th Edition Warhammer 40,000 Space Marines out in the cold for long. A whole host of new and reimagined kits have been added into the mix for the Angels Of Death with their new Codex waiting in the wings. We start off with some of the elite elements of your Space Marine army.
New Terminator Squad // Warhammer 40,000
Shop Warhammer 40,000 @ Store.OnTableTop
Leading the way, we have a new set of Terminators. We already saw some of the new and revamped Terminators as part of the Leviathan boxed set but now we're getting a full plastic kit packed with options. It should be noted right out of the gate that the Assault variant of the Terminators still hasn't arrived yet so you'll have to make do with the old one for now. Still, there are plenty of weapon options to choose from within this chunky kit.
New Terminator Squad - Special Weapons // Warhammer 40,000
You'll be able to arm these Terminators with a bevvy of traditional weapons that make them well-suited to fighting on any battlefield. Need to destroy an alien horde? Strap on the flamers. Want them to punch a whole in an armoured column? Compliment those power fits with missiles.
Terminator Armoured Characters
As well as the new Terminator Squad, you can also pick up a couple of new heroes to lead the Angels Of Death into the heart of battle. There is a new Captain kit on the way, once again packed out with weapon options allowing you to bring it in line with your Chapter of choice.
Captain In Terminator Armour // Warhammer 40,000
If, like me, you want skulls on everything then you might want to snap up the new Chaplain In Terminator Armour. You can rock up with Storm Bolter and Crozius in hand or you can swap out that gun for a shield.
Chaplain In Terminator Armour // Warhammer 40,000
I quite like the full-helmeted version of the Chaplain with the shield at the ready. I have a little grimdark force of Space Marines that I reckon could do with another Chaplain in their mix. If I'm getting a Chaplain I might as well get some new Terminators for him to lead, right? I might wait for those new Assault variants.
Take To The Skies, Brothers!
With Lieutenant Titus rocking around with a jet pack, it wasn't going to be long before we got an updated kit for his tabletop Battle Brothers. A new unit of Jump Pack Intercessors is on the way for those looking to bulk out their force with agile melee combatants.
Jump Pack Intercessors // Warhammer 40,000
Taking the classic Assault Space Marine and giving it a Primaris upgrade, I thank The Emperor that we don't have to deal with silly little flight stands. I think these look pretty decent and certainly do the job. They slot in well with the existing Primaris range whilst not feeling silly like some of the initial jump pack troops did.

These miniatures can also be armed with a variety of specialised weapons like plasma pistols and powerfists as well as hand flamers. This makes them another versatile unit that can leap into the heart of enemy territory and deliver a knock out punch when required. Again, my Space Marine force has a definite bias towards close combat so I am very tempted to snap some of these up to give you a bit more manoeuvrability on the tabletop.
Whilst not the Chaplin With Jump Pack I required, you are going to be able to get yourself a Captain With Jump Pack that can lead the way alongside these Jump Pack Intercessors.

If you like your Blood Angels or your Raven Guard, these units are probably going to end up being a mainstay of your force. I could also see folks having fun doing some conversion work on these to make them feel even more dynamic on the battlefield.
Scouting Ahead
Finally, after many years, we're also seeing the replacements for the classic Space Marine Scouts. The pretty tired plastic kit is getting replaced with a new unit, offering up ways for you to send the (kinda) raw recruits of your Chapter deep into enemy territory.
Scout Squad // Warhammer 40,000
I say raw recruits but these soldiers have been fighting for a pretty long time already! Most of them are exceptionally skilled and whilst they don't wear the Power Armour of their Battle Brothers, they are no less competent at their jobs. Armed with the classic Bolters but also a range of melee and specialist ranged weapons, they can be your vanguard on the tabletop.
Scout Squad (Options) // Warhammer 40,000
Load up a unit with weapons like Sniper Rifles, Heavy Bolters and Rocket Launchers and you've got a squad that can deal with enemy vehicles or perhaps take out enemy commanders to spread mayhem throughout the ranks. These miniatures have had a proper upgrade and should be a fine replacement for the previous plastic kit.
Heroes Of The Chapter
To cap things off, we have some more of the elite elements that make up your Space Marine Army. Forged in the heat of battle, you are going to be able to add Sternguard Veterans back into the mix with a new kit.
Sternguard Veterans // Warhammer 40,000
Given access to some of the most powerful and specialised weapons within the armoury of the Chapter, your Sternguard Veterans are probably going to hold the line no matter what. A shining example to your fellow Battle Brothers! I really like the kit here that feels purposeful and stoic and I like that we've got some unhelmeted options in there too to bring out their personalities.
As if that wasn't enough (back banner included!), you can also get some new Company Heroes to lead the way in battle.
Company Heroes // Warhammer 40,000
This set offers up lots of new options for making an elite squad. The Space Marines are already pretty elite so this must make these fellows off the charts. I like the banner bearer in particular, harking back to classic kits, and the fellow with the bionic arm. We don't see enough bionics in the Primaris range. The best of the best lose limbs too!
Inside this set, you get another Captain miniature to customise. You're not going to be wanting for leaders for your Space Marines after their new Codex drops.
Company Heroes Captain // Warhammer 40,000
That is a lot of new stuff for the Space Marines and it's all going to be coming soon with their Codex for 10th Edition dropping soon. Regardless of your Chapter (as long as they're Codex Compliant), you should be getting a lot of new toys to play with if you like Power Armour.
New Space Marine Codex
As mentioned, a new mammoth tome is dropping for the Space Marines.
10th Edition Space Marine Codex // Warhammer 40,000
Much like with the Tyranids we saw at the start of the week, the Space Marines are going to get a whole new book that replaces the Index that is freely available right now. One of the interesting things about the new book is that the Detachments have been designed so they give the flavour of a particular Chapter without outright saying "yes, these are White Scars". So, you'll find rules in the book for a fast attack-focused army with bikes, jump packs and the like but they're leaving it open so you don't feel like you have to pick a particular route if you don't like.
This certainly gives you more options and whilst I would still have loved for the rules to be freely available through the app, fingers crossed this means if you collect Space Marines you won't have to buy a new book for at least three or four years.
Will you be picking up these new Space Marines for Warhammer 40,000 10th Edition?

Finally – the word “Primaris” is dropping out of the picture. Let’s hope it is expunged from the archives as well. Space Marines are back!
Not all Space Marines are Primaris but all Primaris are Space Marines 😛
I agree though, I’m happy to see the whole primaris thing take a back seat. GW are finally doing what they should have had the balls to do in 2017 and just say they are modernizing the Space marine kits without the stupid lore reasons for the embigulation. The writing was on the wall for the stunty marines. Good riddance I say
Ignoring the unwelcome presence of those idiotic “heavy bolt pistols” and the lazy CAD engineering of the new Assault marines, these are pretty good releases.
Good looking figures.
