Star Wars Battlefront Gets Dogfighting Squadron Mode
August 5, 2015 by brennon
Star Wars Battlefront is getting itself another play mode where you take on the role of fighter pilots within the Empire and Rebel factions. Fighter Squadron Mode features twenty player aerial combat with AI controlled enemies and allies adding to the maelstrom...
It looks like it could be a lot of fun and a fill in for the space battles you could fight in the other Battlefront games. In another mirror of past games it looks like special characters are also part of the game with you being able to assume control of the likes of Han Solo and maybe even Boba Fett.
You could of course also re-create all the action from the video on the tabletop with X-Wing.
What do you think of the gameplay?

good to see BOW being unbiased to this………………………………………… this…………………….
THIS is a joke. it can’t get any worse when a part of the game that was in most maps in the other games, is now a ‘separate mode’.
You know its bad when eather psp games seem way WAY better
There’s lot of reasons to remove the flying to this extent from the ground battles – mainly because it either turns into a mess or becomes too overpowered. Just have to look at games like Battlefield for that. A lot of the dogfighting stuff was effectively it’s own mode anyway with the attacking of the capital ships inside on foot more hassle than fun in Battlefront II. I’m not saying it’s going to be ‘best thing ever 2015’ but it looks like it could be fun – especially if they keep the experience tight and focused on these objective based… Read more »
iain1st, I find your lack of faith disturbing. In previous games, having flying tacked onto the ground combat, felt tacked on. Also spaceships participating in a CAS role isn’t as fun as if the two are separated and you can simply dogfight. Same reason why all the recent Battlefield games have had a dogfight mode where all players are in aircraft. No one could truly say they would prefer a Star Wars battle where the ships are pinned into a small area where ground combat is occurring and the ships race across the sky barely able to get shots off… Read more »
This game look so damn good!
looks good.
Will there be a button to lock s-foils in attack position? And if so, we are all hoping it isn’t pushing the control stick inwards right? I do that all the time on accident in other games.
I dunno, past the whizzbang visuals (they are very nice!) I don’t feel there’s anything particularly stand out about this game mode, the music is ace but even some of the voice acting comes across as a bit rough and ‘flat’ (I am being nitpicky there, mind)
I’d like something a bit more X Wing vs Tie Fighter than Rogue Squadron revisited but I’m pretty certain I’ll be in a minority expressing that opinion.
Game overall looks decent enough, though. I’ll wait for reviews to see how it pans out, especially on PC.
Still waiting/hoping for an Xwing remake. Same game with updated graphics would be fine. Such an epic game – the training intro missions were well hard haha!
Well not the “exact same” I hope. Having a persistent career, but your score dropping to zero every time you died, in a game where you die a lot, was crazy annoying. And any new x-wing game would benefit from the campaign/story mode that was seen in Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. Also, there were way too many missions that revolved around identifying the cargo of a 100 vessels.
