Customize Your Ship Then Print It From Cimmerian Space
September 2, 2014 by stvitusdancern
Cimmerian Space is a new project that has launched (pun intended) on Kickstarter and is a realtime 3D game you can play in your browser. According to the games designer you will be able to play this across any platform from iOS to Android to PC.
It is a space combat / flight simulator and I know what you are thinking haven't we seen this before? Yes, we have as you get to customize your ships to a configuration that suits you, but wait here is the unique twist, once you are done designing your ship you have the option of exporting it as a 3D model to be printed on a 3D printer.
They are doing this in cooperation with Shapeways 3D printing service and they will print out your design into a tabletop miniature. They even state they can print in full colour so you will not have to paint the miniature! It will interesting to see where this one goes.
Will you be traveling into deep space in your custom ride?

Hmmm interesting indeed
Sod the game, just gimme the customizable minis!!
There is a Pledge just for that DeadDave!
But, but, Tom Kirby said this was impossible!? :O
It’s a costly venture that will keep this type of printing on the low… for now. In the not so distant future we may be printing everything.
I didn’t find the cost prohibitive, but I may just be reading it wrong. Definitely liking the idea of building my own ships and printing them, and there are some good designs in there.
But you’re right. I think this is the future of the hobby: buying the 3D computer model and then printing your own.
We have tried to keep the costs low, for now you will have to print your ships via Shapeways, as we are worried about piracy. However we are going to release 1 Ship / Hull that you can print at home.
We hope the cost of 3D Printing will fall over time, as the machines get better.
Not impossible at all! Whats even more exciting is we are looking at a full colour print option too that uses a high res texture from the game!
